I see that a SF Hands-off AAR was done. I thought that a great way of showing the new system in action with the AI. Well played. On to my point.

I was wondering if you could do something similar with the 'Arcade Mode' supply system turned on? Just to see how the AI will operate with no supply restrictions or limitations? Nice to know if Russia or Japan will finally become the bear and co-prosperitor without having to worry about infrastructure or throughput. I would like to know if the AI will present a devestating challenge with it on or simply fall under your wake as it tends to do? All-in-all, I would like to know what this mode will actually do. Thank you in advance.

They were really just two examples. I was hoping to get an overall read-out of the way the AI will play and how it will launch invasions and other such things without having to worry about port-size, air transportation, convoy size (I suppose), etc...

The thought of removing the supply system completely still has me very wary of the results. Will Italy and Britain slug it out in North Africa with sixty armored divisions? Will Siam invade Australia or South Africa because it only needs one convoy to supply it's whole army (if any at all)? Will Persian and Arabian armies cross the globe to wage war with the US? Will oil fields serve a purpose anymore? Fuel conversion, supply production, reinforcements? All of this is very unkown by me about this mode.

That's why I thought an AAR would be a nice gesture! Thank you for taking the time to consider my request Johan.

I doubt very much that the AI will operate any differently in arcade mode, at least not for picking targets and such. I seriously doubt they programmed in two different AIs.

To be honest I think the arcade mode should never have been done and Paradox should have saved the time for other changes.

One example we see here: Paradox has their hands full to balance the game in normal mode, let alone arcade mode.

I think the modders will pretty much ignore this mode as well because they are hard core fans who love a realistic supply system.

I'd suspect that russia would be hurt by it, and japan benefit from it.

Oh oh. Thi isn't good. The fact that Russia is hurt having arcade mode even though it has to ship supply 1000's of miles is not a good sign. Japan should have no problem supplying units in Manchuria; the relatively short rail distance and the short shipping route should make it easy to supply. Something tells me that Japan still has ahisotorical problems in mainland Asia with supply. Might be time to make Manchuria an ally and not a puppet of Japan. That would help a lot.

I doubt very much that the AI will operate any differently in arcade mode, at least not for picking targets and such. I seriously doubt they programmed in two different AIs.

It simply seems that with such a massive change in the gameplay mechanics that the AI will attempt more 'risky' or 'outlandish' strategies that in the normal mode would be otherwise impossible due to the AI supply checking itself or such reasonable limitations. I would like to imagine that the AI is not such a blanket system that always looks for the same targets and vulnerabilities. Do I want the US to land troops around Brest every game? No. Do I think they will/should do something different if they don't have to worry about where they land or with how many troops? Yes.

I'd rather not argue over the likelyhood of these occurances. I would just like an example of the finished product working in this mode. Then we won't need to bother expecting, doubting or believing, we would simply know. Thanks.

I believe he meant in the sense that supply for the Germans will be easier, not harder for the Soviets.

In a couple of days all of us can explore the new goodies that SF will bring to HOI3. In the meantime, I suppose that speculation is as good a way as any to kill the time while we wait on the edge of our chairs. It sure beats having a nervous breakdown like some of the posters in other threads seem to be trying to do. I guess we all deal with stress in our individual ways.

Russia rarely has supply problems in the German front anyway, so Germany will get gains against them. Against Japan, they might do better, but then again, the fight for Vladivostok is rather secondary for the Russians.

Japan could walk all over china, which is not all that easy for them as it is.

I'm certainly not running out to buy it in a few weeks, let alone a few days. I need some hard evidence on what some of the tweaks to the game will do. Of particular interest to me is the 'Arcade Mode' supply system. I've seen that a few AAR's have been done with much appreciation. One more with another element of the expansion added would be quite welcome from my perspective. No?

The rest of us are waiting for you to plunk down your hard-earned money for SF and then write and post an aar about how SF plays in arcade mode. You're not allowed to read an SF AAR until you've spent your own money on SF. In other words, you're not allowed to take advantage of other people's generosity.

Of course it must be correct to never have any sort of forehand knowledge about a product before a purchase. I suppose we should all blindly pick out our cars and clothes without trying them on or reading consumer reports. I would hope that the generosity might spread to those of the small niche of gaming that HoI3 represents who are willing to pay the price, but wish for some more adequate testing.

Rebuking me for asking for a major part of the expansion to be tested and displayed in a similar manner to the AAR's that are already up and available is somewhat confusing. I suppose I am a bit of a freeloader for not wanting to dive headlong into a $19.99 expansion before knowing how the mechanics I'll be paying for work. HoI3 was a mess when I bought it. Not what I thought my $30 was supposed to fetch. Still play it though and will keep on doing so, but I am not going to go in twice-blinded. Sorry.

Come on Rommel41. Do you know any other game company releasing three different AAR's about their new game/expansion before release date by some beta testers? Your call for more looks a little bit insolent. Maybe you should register your copy of HOI3 first before calling for more AAR's...

To be honest, I feel Arcade mode will hardly be used - I imagine most if not nearly all MP games will ignore that mode and I doubt any true gamer will feel right using Arcade mode. Personally, I'll pass over any AAR writers that indicate this mode was used...the resultant game just will not be to my tastes.

Then I suppose you don't read comedic AARs :)

Indeed...I don't sadly. :D I've missed many a good AAR that way I'm certain, but honestly I prefer to read ones that detail what happened in the game played.

May I quote myself:

Apart from the new scenario and the Arcade option (we'll skip that, don't even need to know about it) not much new but it looks good.

;)

Come on Rommel41. Do you know any other game company releasing three different AAR's about their new game/expansion before release date by some beta testers? Your call for more looks a little bit insolent. Maybe you should register your copy of HOI3 first before calling for more AAR's...

To play devil's advocate: Blizzard released four battle reports (that is, recorded and commented "play by play" video of actual games) for Starcraft 2 before it was even in beta. Since it's been in beta there have been thousands of videos posted by beta testers. Obviously, different products and different sized user bases, but I think we can say safely that yes, some times a lot of information is available to consumers before purchase.

That said, I believe that features wise, they have revealed about all that there is to be revealed without releasing spread sheets full of numbers. :D

From this point on we must simply wait and see what people have to say about it when they've had a week or two to get their hands on it.
