Semien is one of my favorite nations to play, as you are the only jewish nation in the game and you have to start as a vassal to the far more powerful Ethiopia, used to begin as an OPM, and there is a run I like to do every new patch.
As Semien (Beta Israel) conquer Jerusalem, giving my religion moral authority, for RP reasons, and conquer the places where writing originated as we know it in the western hemisfere: Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, Greece and Rome.
Thus creating the great AlphaBeta nation, horible pun I know.
The thing I like is that you have three hard steps to do this or two if you wait long enough and then it becomes a hard and a very hard one. First breaking free from Ethiopia still Jewish as the AI has a tendency of converting you, this part can be easy for more experienced players. Second beating up the Mamluks who are far richer than you. Third beating up the Ottomans, or more often being beat up by Janisaries. After that you are big enough to walk up to the pope and ask for Rome.
