The Quadragon Building has changed somewhat since Term IX. mainly for the better, in the new Vice President's opinion. A helipad can be found in the courtyard between wings of the building. Defenses are tighter than ever. But things are mostly the same outside. It is, however, apparent that the Vice President does not like visitors.

Towards the MDIS's office, no changes have taken place, except perhaps the guards. Observant visitors may notice that most of them were previously posted to the Eutopian Embassy in Tokyo.

The cluttered office past the guards says quite a lot about its new resident. Military history volumes stock the shelves, and various objects are on display, ranging from a model of a Mark V British tank to a picture of the American general Omar Bradley. Rumors persist that a prototype electronic pistol designed by an Australian company can be found in the VP's desk, but these are unconfirmed.

(OOC: Anyone with buisness with the Minister can post here, however, anything posted should be considered private, with the exceptions of press releases. If you are not a military officer or a high-ranking politician, you should probably not show up in person before at least calling the Minister.

Minister: ENDTech currently has several projects that you may wish to be briefed on, and we require guidance on certain production issues. Please let me know if you desire a briefing and are available for a meeting.

"Once more unto the breech," Levarge muttered under his breath as he entered the antechamber to the Minister's office. He introduced himself to the new secretary, and then found a new nondescript picture to lock eyes on while awaiting the Minister.

Again, he stood in his immaculate Class-A uniform. Again, he had the thin leather briefcase with the prominent lock. Again, he stood at parade rest, and awaited the new master.

A letter arrives on Andrews Manufacturing Stationary.

"Minister,
I had been in talks with former MDIS Tilly about producing Mirages and or Typhoons for the military. He had also asked me about getting a license for BMI for weapons from Europe. I was wanting to know if you were interested in continuing this or doing something else?

"He's here? Good, good."

*Bob has Levarge sent in to his office, and snaps a salute as he enters.*

"Welcome, General. Please take a seat.. can't offer anything to drink except coffee, I'm not much of a drinker myself. Now, please tell me about these projects you mentioned earlier.. there is one other matter to discuss, but I would like to get this out of the way first."

Levarge saluted the new man. They get younger every time, he thought, but he kept his face, as ever, blank. "Thank you, sir, and welcome to the Ministry. If you don't mind, sir, I'd like to conduct this briefing in your secure room."

Levarge marched over to the SCIF, ran his hand over the hand geometry scanner, worked the dial for a few moments, then pulled open the thick door. "After you, sir."

Austri takes a seat at his desk after his briefing.

"General, I've examined your record. You were at the top of your class at New Lancaster Military Academy, you've run companies, battalions, brigades, and a whole arms company with no prior buisness experience. You have combat experience from Iraq, and have a education from one of the most advanced militaries in the world."

Bob takes a sip of coffee, then continues.

"You've done your job entirely too well, General Levarge. And I find you over-qualified for your current post. I want to give you the position of Chief of Army."

Levarge gets what can only be described as a stupid grin for a moment. He quickly stifles it.

"With due respect, sir, I was second in my class at New Lancaster. First cadet, though.

"I accept, sir. But I don't believe my current actual rank - not my brevet rank - is sufficient for the honor."

"Oh? Then I'll have to promote you first. Now, General Levarge, I need your advice.

I have no idea who to give ENDTech to. While I would prefer to keep you in charge, I can't if you are going to be service chief. Who do you think would be best for the spot?"

"Sir, I had good dealings with Earl Andrews and Barak Mofaz. Mr. Mofaz is not a citizen, however, and could not get clearance for some of our projects. Both men seem intelligence and interested in defense matters.

"With your permission, sir, I'll reopen Army Staff Headquarters at Fort McAllister and the old War Room - though I'll call it the Command and Operations Center. No reason to sound too militaristic.

"I appreciate the honor, Minister. Like every officer, this is the brass ring I've been reaching for."

Press Release: Austri announces next Chief of Army

PRESS RELEASE: MDIS Robert Austri today announced that he was promoting Brevet Lt. General Marcus Levarge to full Lt. General, and then announced that Levarge would also be the the next Army Service Chief.

Austri, who was quoted as saying: 'General Levarge is the only man for the job' spent most of the day in meetings at the Quadragon Building, was unavailable for comment.

Per Austri also announced that Levarge would no longer be serving as CEO of ENDTech, and that he was looking for a replacement.

The Earl of St. Brendanstown, Andrew Andrews has arrived to see the MDIS....

"Earl Andrews! Thanks for getting here so soon.. have you considered my offer?"

 

[Amric]

"Yes, Minister, I have. I also had an offer from Minister de Fourgeres as well. But I am concerned about something. With Andrews Manufacturing producing aircraft for the military it could be construed as a conflict of interest to be a Deputy under de Fourgeres or director of ENDTech. I do not wish to be accused of taking advantage of any position in government for my company.

There is no other native manufacturing company capable of building aircraft other than myself. I find myself in a quandary, and was hoping you could alleviate my mind on this matter."

"Well, Earl Andrews... I think you have no reason to be worried. Andrews Manfacturing is the only Eutopian company capable of producing aircraft, thus it will get all the contracts, no matter whether you are in government or not. If someone sees you as taking advantage of a government post, then maybe they should set up their own aircraft company, then we can give them some contracts too. Anyone who accuses you of giving favors to your company is either very stupid, or needs a thorough education on the Eutopian buisness climate."

"Well then, Minister, you have indeed alleviated my mind. As you may or may not have known, after my own conscription service I spent quite a bit of time in Europe making contacts with various of my peers who were involved in manufacturing and other types of business.....Minister de Lougeres has also expressed interest in my being a deputy. If you would give me a couple of days to think about it I would appreciate it."

A phone call from Levarge.

"Minister? Three things, if I may.

First, the Senate has passed the Eutopian Alternative Government Location and Continuity System Act. That gives the Ministry fifty million ducats to create a new location for governmental survival. With your permission, I'd like to begin classified site evaluations. When I have a good location, I'll send you a report and, if you approve, we can break ground.

Second, in the absence of other service chiefs, I'd like to act as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. The Air Force and Navy are leaderless at this time, sir, and need some direction. All major decisions would, of course, be passed through your office.

Third, regarding ENDTech, if the Earl isn't interested, we could offer it to Mofaz as part of a citizenship package. We'll grant him his citizenship in recognition of his value to Eutopia as ENDTech director, or something like that.

Oh, and have you had a chance to review your predecessor's military reform plans? We should start moving forward on some of these items.
