Selling your vassal down the river?

I was playing as King of Jerusalem in the third crusade period. I had a female duchess as a vasal in outrejourdan. The sultan of egypt declared holy war for that duchy. Just to see what would happen, I surrendered for peace. It said it would surrender all my land in the duchy to the Sultan.

But after the peace came, the SULTAN himself was the new duke and count of the counties my former duchess had occupied. It wasn't just a transfer of vasalage. I was able to just sell her out.

Is this WAD? Has this happened to anyone when the liege is the AI?

Holy Wars completely replace the ruling class and characters in the relevant region. That's WAD.

Selling your vassals up river is also WAD. It reduces the power of your realm as a whole. So you'd have to really hate your vassal or be really hurting to give them up.

Yes, holy wars always replace the owners of the counties involved of the duchy. Its the press ducal claim that gives you transfer vassalage (unless you are already a duke or a count who owns other provinces in another duchy).
