Buying some prisoners could be a interesting strategical decision. It could win a war.
And if one cannot pay their own ransom, why would you bother? Sell them to one of their enemy.

UI-wise, it would be a diplomatic action tied to the potential buyer/seller.

What would push AI characters to buy one of your prisoner?
-Their treasury
-Are they a rival of your prisoner?
-Are they in war with your prisoner?
-Do they have claims on your prisoner's provinces?
-Are they a friend of your prisoner? (They would free the prisoner instantly)
-Are they a close, appreciating family member of your prisoner? (Idem)
-Are they lacking things to sacrifice?

Any additional suggestion?

I'd love to see some other options for prisoners. You see plenty of cases where the Prisoner has a "not interested" liege and the family is right there unable to pay the random. A courtier with cash would be willing to pay for their son or daughter's freedom. Plus it'd give an alternative to setting free a prisoner only for them to go back to their uncaring liege.

If you capture a courtier with no money and nobody want to ransom them maybe you could sell them to a mercinary band as a soldier using the new mecanics.Of course you'd get very little money from this,it's just to clear out the dungens.

The game needs a Ransom “No Interest In” Trigger

When a character is captured and their liege has “No Interest in XXXXXX” I believe there should be a trigger to some options and events.

As the pact between a liege and their liege man was supposed to be two way (though rarely practiced) when the liege has no interest in ransoming that character and that character is released without ransom the character may chose to not return to their liege and instead go off to another court (of a similar culture and / or religion, like when a province changes hands and the court of that province scatters to other courts) even taking their family with them.

If a liege has no interest in a female or a male child the capturer has the option of keeping them in their court. Lowborn women and women of a different religion may have their current marriages not recognised and be remarried.

Captured females could be turned into “mistresses” (a non-pagan version of concubines). The character gets a “Keeps Mistresses” trait that has a negative effect on the wife and religious figures. Children of “Mistresses” are automatically acknowledged but not legitimised.

I like this idea. It would be not only be nice but it would be very useful too. I'd like to see a transfer prisoner button. When your vassals catch a prisoner in your war. I'd like to be able to transfer them into my dungeon too.

Captured children who are under house arrest should be able to educated by members of the capturer’s court. The capturer may be able to release them back to their home court educated to his religion and culture to cause trouble.

Nice ideas here, I don't know about mistresses though. Maybe more like hostage, they get released and become your courtiers but can't leave unless someone is willing to pay the ransom. Also it would be nice if both sides in a war held close family members prisoner they could swap hostages.

I used Mistress (with “”) because a thought it sounded better than personal slave or spoils of war. Though glossed over in history of the period slavery was practiced even in Europe, it was a pretty shitty world to be a commoner and a woman.

How about giving each culture (and maybe religion too) a practices_slavery flag. If set to YES then characters of that religion will sell their prisoners onto slavery after a certain period (say MTTH 3 months).

The price paid should be be entirely independent of the status of the prisoner and instead be dependent upon their general health and age, plus some big bonuses if they are Attractive (esp if female) or Quick or Strong (if male). Purchased prisoners show up in the buyers court as prisoners, they may then be onsold, released, converted into concubines etc as the buyer sees fit.

Players can already do this, but the AI should take advantage of this too.
