I'm still fuzzy on the way things work in this game, and was wondering if someone could explain what this is about.

I'd noticed the Byzantines having a bit of trouble with realm duress and the Seljuks. It seems things were stranger than I thought. The purple of Byzantium is still there, and they're at war with the Seljuks, but the emperor is one Ebrahim Seljuk! The flag on Byzantion is now a circle, and there's a crescent. Some, but not all, of the Byzantine vassals are now muslims (Greek muslims, with names like Theodorus, and Bulgarian muslims, too).

The proper emperor Michael 'Parapinakes' Doukas apparently died last year, and his son is now a vassal of Ebrahim, as Count of Constantia, though he does have a claim to the Byzantine Empire.

How did this happen? If the Seljuks conquered as it appears, why is there still a seperate Seljuk empire at war with purple Byzantium ruled by a Seljuk (a child, no less)? How did the Greeks end up vassals to this kid? Shouldn't Byzantium have turned the yellow Seljuk color? Or at least become the Sultanate of Rum or something?

There's been a crusade called to Byzantion. Is there any way for me to reinstate the proper heir and return things to the way they "should" be? If I attack the province I'll end up taking it for myself, which I don't want, plus I'd be warring against what is listed as the Byzantine Empire.

I notice that Achaea and a few other small Greek states are at war with this impostor, too, such as Epirus, which is ruled by a Palaiologos, a house which historically became Emperors after the Fourth Crusade. Is it possible for them to win the throne back for the Greeks?

I'm confused, if you couldn't tell.

It turns out Ebrahim is the (much) younger brother of the Seljuk sultan, and this sultan has only been on the throne for a few years. How on Earth did a weaker younger brother to the Seljuk (who use consanguinity) Sultan become the most powerful Byzantine vassal before he was even old enough to have a portrait?

Through some classic, penultimate Byzantine scheming?

Is this scenario plausible?
Ebrahim was given former Byzantine lands from his Seljuk brother, but the Byzantines reconquered those lands by force-vassalization? Then the Byzantine emperor died before Ebrahim had the time to convert to Christian orthodoxy?

AI will never force vassalize.

Possibly Ebrahim was given land, declared independence from the Seljuks, and then offered allegiance to the Byzantine Empire. This shouldn't really happen if you've got the latest beta patch, I think. Other possibility is Ebrahim inherited Byzantine land somehow.

I do have the beta patch, and the improvement pack for that matter. I don't see who he could've inherited land from. It's only 1083. His father was the first Seljuk emperor. There was only the one Greek Byzantine emperor before Ebrahim took the throne.

IDK, it's odd.

One possibility was that a minor Seljuk lord had the events where he became a rival of the previous Byzantine emperor, gaining a claim on the title of Emperor, then during a war peace he pressed the claim and became emperor himself, gaining all the vassals.

I play a lot of Byzantine scenerios, and the fairly sets up the battle of Manzikert: 26th of August 1071. Historically the Seljuk Turks won this battle and captured the Byzantine king in the process. This led to the near complete loss of asia minor and the rise of Muslem Turkey.
