Chapter III: Waiting and waiting and..........
The next years (1496-1505) were mainly constituted of waiting. Most of the actions were minor and insignificant. I found that during the Mamaluke war the Serbians had revolted. Currently Hadim Ali was slowly sieging the rebellious province of Serbia. Hearing that Bosnia was also soon to fall to these rebels, and afraid that Serbia might form, I quickly trudged north to Hadim Ali's headquarters.
When I arrived dripping with rain into his tent, he narrowed his eyes.
"You," he said, "I just received the letter from the Sultan. He talked about you," he paused, "I don't know how you seduced the Sultan, but your tricks don't scare me. You are a pitiful excuse for a warrior, and you'd better watch your back."
"As you know," I said, "I currently outrank you. You will follow my orders. The turkish army is the best in the world. We will attack." "And," I added, "If you send your henchmen to kill me, I will blast a hole in their body that will bleed them to death." I won't have to shoot anyone, I thought, or, I hope I won't have to shoot anyone.
I clambered after Ali into the trenches.
"Men," he said as if it was his own order, "attack!"
Out of the trenches the mass of men clambered, while tens of cannons blasted. The walls of Belgrade utterly collapsed, and men swarmed in.
After the battle, we marched to Bosnia, where the rebels were sieging. The next day we fell upon their army. Hadim Ali ordered the men to swarm it, but the rebel line held. Seeing this, I rode to the artillery.
"Men," I screamed, "Fire straight into the mass of the enemy." Luckily, the shells fell true the first time. Masses of men fell. It was an utter annihilation of the Serbians. I smiled a little to myself. The first battle in which artillery won the day. A little unhistorical, but it would be in the books.
After this the army trudged to Constantinople. And so the waiting began. I secretly exchanged many maps, and we learned a lot. A new war looked promising as an opportunity, Venice vs. the Austrian alliance. But too soon, they made peace.
A few years later, I was sick of waiting. A great war must come soon.
I took the time to write to the Sultan.
Esteemed Sultan of Constantinople and Cairo,
We must attack soon. The troops are unhappy, the people are restless, we must make war. We are only the 3rd most powerful nation, after Spain and France! We must expand.
Most sincerely,
The Snow King.
I got a letter the day after.
My Esteemed Snow King,
I agree, but what do we attack?
