I know it's been quite awhile since this thread fell by the wayside, but I'm always tinkering with events, and have another string to offer.

The vast majority of events I've made were for Germany, or part of some strategic situation directly related to Germany. But I've grown tired of panzerschreks and Stukas, trading them in for Shermans and Mustangs. But the USA is preposterously devoid of events, and all to easy to drag into the European war prior to Pearl Harbor.

To give myself more of a challenge, I thought I'd write an event or two that penalized the US for early entry into the European war. This idea morphed into an event series I call A Divided Nation.

The premise here is that President Roosevelt commits the U.S. to the European war (presuming the game runs somewhat historically) BEFORE the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, drawing the ire of isolationists and helping to create an anti-war movement. Depending on the President's reaction, this can lead to more than just a hefty dissent hit, with the ultimate possibility of assassination and/or retreat to isolationism.

Unlike my other event series, this one is time-restrictive. If Japan has not struck before the end of 1941, all these events are nullified, the idea being that by 1942, isolationist sentiment will have eroded enough to make American intervention less divisive. In other words, the USA is free to jump into the war from 1942 on.

Also unlike my other series, I am not completely convinced this series is complete, and I would appreciate the input of anybody interested in testing them out and seeing how well they fit into the game. I've tested them thoroughly, and they all work quite well, but I can't escape the feeling that something is missing.

So if you're interested, simply download the txt file, copy the events to the event file of your choice (I always use HOI2), and give it a whirl. If you want to test them quickly rather than waiting for them to pan out (it can take more than a game year for all the events to play out), then you'll need to change all the offsets to 1.

Don't forget to add
6272;Head of State;John Nance Garner;36;SL;Insignificant Layman;High;M6002;x
to the USA ministers file.

One last thing...event 400699 was a test file, it's completely useless and you are more than welcome to delete the whole thing. It will have no effect on the event chain whatsoever.

I've got yet another series for anyone who wants it. It's called Spanish Civil War: American Intervention, and it does pretty much what it says, giving the USA a chance to intervene in the SCW.

Unlike similar events for the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and the USSR, the USA cannot simply choose to send or not send material and volunteers. There's the little issue of the Neutrality Act to deal with, plus the added bonus of choosing which side you'd like to support. With fascists and communists fighting each other, the USA gets to pick its poison, and the rewards for supporting either side, in victory or defeat, are varied.

I actually have something similar to this. If you look back to one of my previous posts in this thread you'll find a series called "Post BP Troubles," which basically chronicles the collapse of the Soviet Union after losing the war with Hitler. But if you'd like something different then I need to ask in what context is this 2nd Russian Civil War happening? I'd be happy to script it for you, I just need some more specific input on what you're looking for. What causes it, what other powers intervene, how does it affect international politics, etc.

Any chance of someone doing up an event that gives you air units? I have seen one for land units, but I can't seem to get it work for air units...

can't believe only 60 downloads ~ , they look real nice, ill edit my post once i play a game and have a more detailed look at all of it, if you still need feedback :D

Thanx, I'm looking forward to your feedback. Just a heads-up, here's a few techteams you'll need to add to the German techteam file.

I know they replace Heinkel and Werner von Braun, but you can pick whatever techteam you'd rather get rid of, I was fairly arbitrary in these picks. Also, I'd quite forgotten that techteam tags had changed in Arma, so The New Kriegsmarine string won't work correctly until the techteam tags are updated. Also, the Vichy England events are supposed to create Wales, but the country tag is incorrect for Armageddon. The correct tag for Wales is U76. I'll make the change to the downloadable file, but if you'd rather not wait you'll have to look through the Vichy England events (ids 400400-40016) & the New Kriegsmarine events (ids 400105-400141). I'll be updating that file as well, and creating an all new All Events file that will be bug free, and include a few more sets of events that I've made.

My apologies for not making sure the files were updated.

But when they are, I must tell you that my event strings tend to be situation oriented, and usually based on my patterns of gameplay. For instance, as Germany, I always hold the Brits at arms length while I knock off the USSR, build a fleet, then launch Sea Lion...hence New Kriegsmarine triggers after the Bitter Peace, provided you are still at war with a major sea power, which I usually am.

Anyway, I need to get these file updated. Off I go! I'll check in when it's all ready to go.

At the moment the only file available for download is my_events.txt which has literally every event I've ever created, which is more than I've described so far, and includes a few cheats IIRC, so if you download that, all you should have to do is add the techteams to teams_ger.txt, then add this

event = "db\events\my_events.txt"

to db\events.txt

All should be well after that :D I'll get to making separate files for each event series later today. I was too tired to do it last night, but my_events.txt is now bugfree and works with HOI2DD/Armag 1.2.

i'm not interested in BP problems, but more of if Stalin was too harsh
on his ppl and if dissent gets over level 30, 1937's a good year...Russia declares its idependence and if it wins out in the Russian CW...it embarks on a journey to reclaim its lost empire....i also need an event chain for russia to be able to have a good enough armed forces to take on the Soviets...i'd also like a way to get the Tsar, Vladimire I on the throne...

can u script an event chain if Hitler either refuses to put troops on the Rhineland, or if the Czechs refuse the sudentenland claims and Hitler backs down that theres a Three way civil war between Monarchists, republicans and Commies..it would be an interesting scenerio lol :O

OK! So, I went through and updated all my event strings, separated them into their own files and uploaded them. Also, the my_events file has been updated to included Divided Nation and Spanish Civil War: American Intervention. To anybody who downloaded this file before this post, you'll need to look up event 400402, and change U01 to U76 in the trigger. (One fix I missed last nite, sorry!)

So you can now download the event strings separately, or jointly in my_events, all of which can be found downloaded from this link.

P.S. The my_events file still contains my personal cheats, which I'm not going to go into as they cannot trigger on their own. But if you want to look for them, you'll find them! :D

To the Victor Goes the Spoils soviet_POWs

My first set of events, this is a 3 event series that takes place immediately after the Bitter Peace, offering the German player 3 stark choices on the fate of Russian POWs.

The Bosphorus the_bosphorus

An 11 event series dealing with German hegemony in the Mediterranean in the event Turkey is puppeted or a member of the Axis. The German player is presented options over how to best secure the strategically vital Bosphorus.

The New Kriegsmarine the_new_kriegsmarine

A 37 event series concerning the revamp of the Kriegsmarine after the Bitter Peace, provided of course Germany remains at war with either the UK or USA, and the Allies have no lodgement in western Europe. A new naval base and naval officers training school is proposed. The German player is given the option of focusing the new navy on the carrier, maintaining a big gun fleet, or making no change at all. The project is time consuming (approximately 18 months) expensive (hope you have large resource reserves) and dangerous (unless you'd like to pay for extra safety), but will unlock research teams and considerably shorten production times for naval vessels.

Hitler Chooses a Successor hitler_chooses_a_successor

Precisely as it sounds, 24 event series in which the German player determines the next Fuhrer. Will fire sometime after 1945.

England Surrenders after France Falls england_surrenders_after_vichy

A 50 event series that triggers after the establishment of Vichy France. England sends peace feelers and depending on the German reaction, the Second World War may just end right then. Territorial concessions are determined by the composition of the Axis, and the German player's decision to press for harsh or lenient terms.

Vichy England partition_of_Britain

A 17 event series dealing with the aftermath of a successful German invasion of Britain. Various occupatoin policies are available.

The Irish Crisis the_irish_crisis

A 22 event series that comes on the heels of Vichy England if the USA has not yet been dragged into the European conflict. Ireland is the last bastion of democracy from which any trans-Atlantic liberation could originate. Will the USA finaly be goaded into war if the Germans are too heavy handed? Will the Irish resist? Will the Fuhrer back down?

Synthetic Oil synthetic_oil

Undoubtedly the most self-indulgent event series I've made, a 43 event series allowing a German player with sufficient knowledge of synthetic oil production to creat a super-complex in which surplus energy can be converted to oil. Choose where to put it, at what capicity to build it, and like the New Kriegsmarine, prepare for a long project of at least a year. Your reward...a significant increase in your oil production of course! Oh, and do remember, if the province in which it is built is overrun, it will be destroyed.

Soviet Claims on Bessarabia while Romania is Axis SOV_claims_bessarabia_ROM_axis

A 7 event series in which an Axis Romania appeals to Germany to protect her territorial integrity. But Germany has recognized the claims in the M-R Pact. Who can the Fuhrer afford to anger more at that particular moment?

Romania Leaves the Axis ROM_leaves_axis

A 7 event series which fires if Romania is Axis, and has been forced to give territorial concessions to Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. With allies like that, the Romanians may feel better off alone. But will the Fuhrer stand for such treachery?

Lebensraum lebensraum

A 6 event chain that is rather self-explanatory. Basically an opportunity for the German player to slowly turn the vast occupied East into cores.

Alternate Cold War Begins alternate_cold_war

Requires england_surrenders_after_vichy to work properly. A 4 event series that borrows some from the England Surrenders After Vichy series, giving both the USA and GER players to decide if continued conflict is warranted given German hegemony in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Post BP Troubles in the Soviet Union post_BP_SOV

A 77 event series in which the Soviet Union deals with internal strife in the aftermath of the disastrous war with Germany. Prepare for lots of civil war, and choose your enemies carefully. Too much bluster without the strength to back it up and the Soviet Union will eventually crumble into dust.

Total War Mobilisation total_war_mobilisation

An 8 event series giving the German player option of preparing the war economy for the long haul, something Hitler delayed doing until 1943. I was planning on adding similar events for each of the major powers, but haven't gotten to it yet. Industrial and manpower bonuses are offset by significant dissent hits and morale drops. It also triggers an extra persistent "War Dissent" event, which randomly adds 1% dissent. Fund a propoganda campaign to fight these effects.

Post Bitter Peace German-Japanese Relations post_BP_GER_JAP_relations

With the collapse of the Soviet Union under the force of German arms, Japanese leaders ponder whether or not it is time to officially join the Axis alliance while the getting is still good.

The Arab Federation the_arab_federation

With German forces pushing into the Middle East (whither from Egypt or Turkey), some members of the Iraqi government propose an audacious plan to the Germans; help Iraq gain their freedom, and gain the alliance of Arabs everywhere. Be sure to treat your new allies generously, however, as they can as easily become your enemies.

The Arab Federation Looks to Expand arab_expansion

Requires the previous set of events. Once independent and firmly in power, the Arab Federation's ambitions bump against those of both Germany and Italy, leading to a new crisis.

A Divided Nation dividednation

Penalizes the USA for pre-Pearl Harbor intervention in either the European or Pacific Wars. Without the impetous of the surprise attack, an anti-war movement gains steam, and depending on the attitude and policies of the President, may lead to his resignation, impeachment, or worse.

The Spanish Civil War: American Intervention USAinSCW

A way for the USA to skate the line between intervention and isolationism. Repeal or amend the Neutrality Act, pick a side, and hope they win, for the benifits of supporting the winning side are far, far greater than backing a loser.

The Winter War: Allied Intervention USA_in_FIN

Required the previous string to work properly. Britain ponders the question of the Winter War. With a bigger war with Germany to worry about, can they afford to support the Finns? Perhaps the Americans can step in instead? Or better yet, will both countries aid little Finland against the red bear?

can u script an event chain if Hitler either refuses to put troops on the Rhineland, or if the Czechs refuse the sudentenland claims and Hitler backs down that theres a Three way civil war between Monarchists, republicans and Commies..it would be an interesting scenerio lol :O

Firstly, Im playing with SMEP 5.0 for Doomsday installed at the moment but would love to play with the addition of your events, Im a serial Germany player so would love a litte flavour to a game I know back to front by now, is it possible to add your events right over the top of SMEP and if so, how?
Im a newb with such technical things despite the fact I have been playing HOI II for years now, so I couldnt make much of your post explaining how to install the events.

I've never played SMEP, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but I do know that most of these events were originally designed to work with HSR. This is why I had to go through them all and update them for Armageddon 1.2 (at the moment there is no HSR for Arma unless I am mistaken). From my experience moving them back and forth between DD, HSR, and Arma, I suspect most issues you will have will be event ids, and tags of all sorts (countries, ministers, leaders, & techteams).

As for installing the events, the easiest way will be to download my_events.txt from the link above, and copy it to the events folder (file path is Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\db\events). Then, move back to the db folder, open events.txt, and add this...

event = "db\events\my_events.txt"

Save the file. This basically lets the game know theres another set of events for it to work with. If you don't do this, the game will ignore my_events.txt.

Then, from the db folder, open the tech folder, then the teams folder. Find teams_ger.txt, open it, and replace teams 2 and 17 with these...

Make sure to get rid of the spaces in "seamanship" and "naval_engineering." I'm not sure why they appear when I copied the teams onto this post, but there aren't supposed to be any spaces.

Save the file, and you're done! :D The events should work fine (again, depending on whether SMEP has conflicting event ids and tags, which I'll check ASAP for you).

The easiest way to test the events to make sure the game is looking for them is to load up a 1936 GC as any country but the USSR, and let it cycle through a day or two. An event called "Travis' Adjustments" should fire on Jan 2 for the Soviet Union. Do NOT load as the USSR, as this event's only trigger is that SOV is ai. If it doesn't fire, then there may be some conflict with SMEP I don't know about, but it should fire as it is the simplest of events (basically a cheat, as it lowers fortification levels in Leningrad, Moscow, Stalingrad, and Sevastopol - event 400069 if you want to delete it later).

Hope that helps. I'm going to take a look at SMEP and try to find out if there are any conflicts. I'll check back in later today.
