And welcome on board, everyone. Now that it seems I've got a pretty good number of readers, I'll try to keep my admittedly short attention span on this more than I have.

Hey, I made it to multiple pages! It only took, what, three months? :D

Again, sorry I've let my attention wander off for so long, it'll stay on this for some time, at least until schools starts in two weeks.

Houston, we have a problem.

I just went to play a year or two in the Inca game, and when I go to load, I notice a pretty big bug. It seems that all of the game data except for province ownership and anything pertaining to Scandinavia or Brittania was wiped out.

This means, every nation except Swed, Norw, Den, Eng, and Scot gets this little blurb on the right hand side: "Inca Empire/Independent Nation/nogovernment/ruled by/norulername" The territory is fine, and the difficulty/star thingy system seem to be accurate, but upon loading the game I find that I indeed have no government type, no ruler, diplomacy is at 0 with all nations, no treaties, no generals, no diplomats, missionaries, etc., no money, no army... the list goes on.

I recently upgraded to 1.3, this is my first time playing this game in 1.3, but I have played others. My games as Norway and Bengal work fine, but for the rest it is the same deal. Scandinavia and Brittania are fine, everyone else is undone. I blame Norway, because that was my first game I loaded with 1.3 and it's fine. I also blame Bengal because Chris Henry could have led us to a SuperBowl had he not gone off and been a moron, and oh yeah that game works well too.

I'll check the bug forum for advice, luckily I'm 46 years ahead of the AAR so I can keep this up for a while, and hopefully get this fixed by then. I can guarantee there is a lot of material in those 46 years to stretch it out until my game is back working, I have one more relaxed (okay, boring) update before we get to the whole "Hegemony in America" part.

Cheers, ;)

Well, that's great!!

Also:
- Have you considered getting the 'quest for the new world' national idea, so that you can explore new oppurtunities?
- I mean, conquering the whole known world, gives another meaning when you play incas, as you almost already own it...
- Shall you build a fleet, so you can teach this Loch Ness War Galleon a lesson?'

I won't give away the future. Anyways, read my last post, that's my primary concern right now.

Also a concern, can Americans actually build ships? I can't seem to. The Chimu had a decent sized navy (3 ships, not bad for a 1-province American vassal, which is about as minor as minors can get. I will tell you that the Creeks get 5 merchants in Lisbon CoT and won't let anyone else have more than 1, just as a sneak peek.

But none of this matters if I can't get the above bug fixed, cause right now the game is basically unplayable.

It would be a great shame if it does effectively CTD, because it's been greatly entertaining; a pretty original idea, and great dashes of humour along with one or two quite powerful moments. In an odd way I liked Huascayo's last words on the record: dutiful and sensitive to the last.

Thanks. I didn't at the time plan for those to be Huascuyo's last words, but when I went to plan the next update I realized that absolutely nothing happened for ten years. Back then people, even in civilized and medically advanced america, only lived into their 50s very early 60s, and Huascuyo was supposed to be the Senior Court Scribe, so he would probably die in those ten years. I tried to also portray the relatively new relation between Huascar and Deyoquett, Huascuyo was relatively comfortable talking with Pachacuti, but Deyoquett is more dutiful and formal. Also, I tried to make Huascar a little less dramatic than Pachacuti, not only were his in game stats a bit lower (i forgot to take a SS of the exact values) but he has not (and sadly will not) achieved enough to get the dramitic, near-Godly aura of his father.

And, as to the bug, it's not a CTD at all, it just removes all purpose to the game: I have no diplomatic relations with anyone except Britain, and get no diplomats to change that, I have no army, and no gold to rebuild an army, and no income to get gold to get an army. Thus, the game would be reduced to sitting around and waiting for the 5 countries that still function to conquer everyone else.

One last thing: I'm still not sure exactly what I need to do to westernize, I read something about it a while ago but I can't seem to get the event. I have borders with several Europeans now, and have had them for a while (as in a decade or two) and still can't get the event.

THE DEATH OF HUASCAR I
Record of court proceedings on the 12th day of the 1st month of the year of the Tahuantinsuyo Empire 281 under the reign of Sapa Inka Huascar. Court Scribe Deyoquett, recorder.

ATTENDANT: Sapa Inka, a messenger arrives from the Collasuyu province.

HUASCAR: Yes, let him in.

MESSENGER: Sapa Inka, I bring greetings from Apo (Governor) Quovneru of Collasuyu. He reports that progress in the less civilized regions of the most remote province continue at a great pace. In the past three months, our census reports that both Caranga and Moxos have achieved populations of over 1000 individuals of mitapayer (taxpayer) status.

280NewCities.jpg

HUASCAR: This is excellent. Just 18 years ago Moxos was not even settled. Savage tribes roamed a barbarian jungle. Now it is a full fledged waranqa kuraqa (city of 1000)! Attendant, arrange a litter and escort, I wish to tour the region as soon as possible. Other attendant, summon Ayatyl, he needs to plan a route for me.

ATTENDANTS: Yes, Son of Inti. Hey, I am trying to talk. I get to address the Sapa Inka first. I am superior. Stop saying the same things as me!

ATTENDANT 1: Fine

ATTENDANT 2: Glad that's over, we sounded like five year olds.

HUASCAR: Perhaps five year olds would have the presence of mind to stop bickering and go on about their duty.

ATTENDANTS: Yes, Sapa Inka. Gaaaah, stop that!

They return three minutes later, with Ayatyl shuffling along with them

AYATYL: Sapa Inka, I think the best route for you would be to take the eastern half of the Lake Titicaca road to the south. When the Caranga road branches of to the east, take that. There are no paved roads leading to Moxos yet, but messenger trails will have to do.

HUASCAR: This sounds good. Come, I will escort you back to the Cartography Office, where you can show me on a map.

AYATYL: Yes, Sapa Inka. This is kind of you.

Ayatyl trips going down the steps. Huascar falls over him. Neither is moving.

ATTENDANTS: Sapa Inka, are you all right?! Inti damn you, stop repeating me, the Sapa Inka is hurt! Sapa Inka... STOP SAYING WHAT I SAY!"

DEYOQUETT: Shut up, both of you! One of you check his heartbeat, the other fetch Court Doctor Areelquuwak!

ATTENDANTS: Yes, C...

ATTENDANT 1: ...ourt Scribe! Finally, he shut up! Yes, yes, I'm going.

ATTENDANT 2: Shaking Huascar Sapa Inka, Sapa Inka. Come on, wake up. Sapa Inka! He doesn't have a heartbeat, Scribe!

DEYOQUETT: I feared as much.

Attendant 1 arriving with Areelquuwak.

AREELQUUWAK: Doe he have a heartbeat?

ATTENDANT 2: No, Doctor.

AREELQUUWAK: Well, the only thing I can think of to do then is cut a hole in his skull.

DEYOQUETT: What would that do?

AREELQUUWAK: Nothing, really. But I enjoy messing around with neurosurgery. The Sapa Inka is already dead.

DEYOQUETT: That's disgusting. You would dishonor the body of a great leader of Inti's Empire?

AREELQUUWAK: Obviously you've never played Toss the Brain before.

DEYOQUETT: No, and I don't want to. Anyways, there are more important issues. Attendants.

ATTENDANTS: Yes, Scribe? Argh, stop doing that!

DEYOQUETT: That whole bit has gotten really old, attendants. Now, I need you to summon the Royal Panacas. Huascar had no children. The cousins must now choose one of their own to assume the rank of Sapa Inka.

ATTENDANTS: Yes, Scribe. Argh, stop...

DEYOQUETT: GO!

And, for some bonus content (as much use to me as you):

Quecha Titles

Suyu= Province. Beginning in the NW and moving clockwise, they are: Chinchaysuyu, Antisuyu, Collasuyu, and Qontisuyu.

Apo= Provincial Governor

Tukuyrikuq= Local leader or mayor

Mita= Mandatory public service, which was how the Tahuantinsuyo taxed

Kuraqa= Social division, based on number of mita payers. The kuraqas were: Hunu (10,000) Waranqa (1,000) Pachaka (100) and Chunka kamayuq (10)

Auqui= Prince

Coya= Queen

Royal Panacas= First-generation relatives of the Sapa Inka

Panacas= Other extended relatives of the Sapa Inka

Hatun Runa= The general public.

Mitimaes= Non-citizens, usually refering to members of newly conquered races

Yanaconas= Servants

Quipu= Little knotted cords that were used to record information; this is how Deyoquett is keeping the record. He would probably make a good Boy Scout, considering how he spends his whole day tying knots as fast as he can

Chasqui= Messenger. I just learned this term, or I would have used it a lot. They were capable of running extremely large distances, mostly because they were almost perpetually high on cocaine (again, had I known this, it would have made it into the AAR already.)

Balsa= Reed ship, the largest of which were 30 meters long

Vicuna= Wild animal, the fur of which was woven by Temple Virgins ("aclla") into remarkable fine cloth, which was beyond any other cloth in the world until the 19th century

Chicha = Booze (Corn alcohol)

I was wondering what was that "Court proceedings" in your signature for a while...

lol

It's quite original and very funny. I've liked it so far.

Have you managed to fix the bug? I guess you've already tried to load new and old autosave?

If you are playing a mod you need relation greater or equal 150 on to border with latin tech nation.

I don't know what do you need in vanila...

Okay, that explains it. My problem is that as of late I have had a lot of 3-3-3 kings and so have had to put all of my money into expanding (colonizing... it takes me somewhere between 3-6 attempts in each province, at 60ish gold per attempt. Also, I'm a bit stingy, and don't like letting my treasury get far below 4000- of which I'm proud, I got that without loans and very little minting, just mining and stinginess    ) This means that I have little left over for bribery.. er, "gifts." Another problem is that the only one I actually have relations with is Portugal, I can see Spain's, Venice's, and Austria's colonies but not the capital, so I can't talk with them. This is a really wierd game quirk that needs fixing in a later patch.

Have you managed to fix the bug? I guess you've already tried to load new and old autosave?

Actually, the new and old autosaves were both as Norway, I was playing my game with them when I updated to 1.3, and that's the only old game that successfully converted to the new patch. All my other old vanilla 1.2.1 games are pretty much screwed. I'm procrastinating but eventually I will reinstall, patch up one level at a time, and see if I can't figure out what the bug is. Oh yeah, I'm also not supposed to call it a "bug" anymore, according to the moderators (AndrewT) , because Paradox does not officially support patch-patch conversion, it is not a problem, so I can't complain, or something like that. So, I guess I will see if I can't figure out what the "unsupported unintentional scripting anomaly" is.

but many hard names though...

Don't worry about keeping the two attendants seperate, they really aren't important, I just used the 1 and 2 to signify when they were speaking individually, as opposed to in unison.

Also, don't worry about the name of the governor of the SE province, I just threw out a generic Quecha-sounding name.

As for the rest, the only new character is Areelquuwak, whose name is basically self-descriptive: A real quack ;)

And, for titles, I realized that using authentic Quecha would make the AAR hard to understand. I was actually writing the "Bonus Content" when you posted. This should clear it up a good bit. In fact, I think I will edit the first post to link to it, so that everyone knows it's there from the start if they need it.

IAmTheSpoon said:
I like this AAR. Id like it more if it had more action than words though

Don't worry, it gets there, and quickly. I think I will end the next update with a cliffhanger, leading into the action, letting you know exactly what it will be, but not knowing what path I will take.

THE NEW PUSH FORWARD BEGINS
Record of court proceedings on the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the year of the Tahuantinsuyo Empire 284 under the reign of Sapa Inka Manco Capac II. Court Scribe Deyoquett, recorder.

MANCO CAPAC II: Deyoquett.

DEYOQUETT: Yes, Sapa Inka?

MANCO CAPAC II: You have been on vacation recently. You know better than any what the attitude of the population is.

DEYOQUETT: Well, Sapa Inka, I can best describe the attitude of the Hatun Runa (General Public)as... expansive, I guess. Everyone looks to Moxos, where there is an area four times the size of the Imperial Province, populated by only a quarter of the people. They see the enormous farms, the massive, one-story buildings, and they are envious, even though the land itself is not so rich.

MANCO CAPAC II: This is most excellent. Most excellent! If the people want land, is there not a great deal of land beyond our borders, ours to rule and convert to the true faith of Inti?

DEYOQUETT: Son of Inti, this may be so, but if I may recall a discussion the great leader, Sapa Inka Pachacuti World-Shaker, had with his court not long before the first expedition into Moxos tribal lands. Ah, here is the record.

MANCO CAPAC II: That was true, at that time, Deyoquett, but not now. As you said, the people want land. If I promised porters land in return for their services; if I promised them a large portion of the land they explore in return for their services... better- I will give every porter a certain percentage of the land area they explore. Thus, the longer they stay with the expedition, the better it is for them.

284QftNW.jpg

DEYOQUETT: This... this is wise, Sapa Inka. Very wise. In fact, it reminds me of some of the old records from during the Great Expansion. Pachacuti World-Shaker came up with plans just as wise as this.

MANCO CAPAC II: Inti grants her wisdom to those Sapa Inkas who accept it. Now... chasqui! (messenger!)

CHASQUI: huh???

MANCO CAPAC II: Chasqui, there is no need to chew coca when you are not delivering a message.

CHASQUI: Uhhhh... yeah.... uhhh....

MANCO CAPAC II: Okay, listen up, chasqui. I need you to...

CHASQUI: ZOMG!ISHATABRICK!uhhhhhhh....

MANCO CAPAC II: This is pointless. Attendant!

ATTENDANT: Yes, Sapa Inka?

MANCO CAPAC II: Get some others to help. I need you to post advertisements, promising thousands of acres of land for hardy porters. Tell them to inquire at the palace for details. Also, find a messenger, one who has not been chewing coca in the past hour, to deliver a message to the various Armies: expect an explorer to lead you into new territory sometime in the next few months. Lastly, summon Court Cartographer Ahuatreu, ad tell him to bring his most promising Junior Cartographer.

ATTENDANT: Lets see, ads, messengers to the armies, Ahuatreu and his apprentice. Got it. It shall be done according to your will, Sapa Inka.

--------------------------------------

ATTENDANT: Sapa Inka, here are Ahuatreu and Junior Cartographer Huayna Cápac Marcavilca.

MANCO CAPAC II: Good, come forward. Ahuatreu, I need you to plan a route for an exploratory expedition. Huayna, I need you to lead it. Let me give you some more details...

Finally!! An elder who's name I can truly remember!!! (cos' of Huayna Capac in Civ4 though)

Bah! Civilization! A mighty noble Europa Universalis player like yourself has no business playing Civ4! :eek:o :D

The next update will reveal where exactly I will expand to, and whether or not any revenge for Pachacuti's death is likely.

(Actually, I'll reveal that now: The ship that killed him was Lithuanian. I doubt I'll ever reach Lithuania to get revenge. LITHUANIA?!, you might ask, and yes, Lithuania had been sailing around South America since the 1460s. Don't you just love ho the AI gets no naval attrition? ;) )

Lithuania tends to appear everywhere: in one of my games they even conquered Mexico.

Good AAR. I like the humour, and can't wait for the next part.
