Buildings automatically grow up ... guess the only way to steer it is by strategically placing parks/attractions
(so that only those buidings which you want to increase in level are among the radii that get an increase in land value)

Sinname;

There is no way to do what you want easily. The only thing you can do for now is keep bulldozing the buildings you don't want as soon as they are built and hope the ones you do want will appear instead.

Really? I downloaded one building, and it seems I'm getting that building most of the times.

Anyways, they did say they plan to add "European buildings" into the game, the wall-to-wall buildings....

I don't think so, it doesn't look modern European and this is a BIG mistake. Devs have tried to make it "general" to satisfy everyone and it doesn't.
It isn't European, no North American or Japanese. Just a strange mix of them.
Because of that I'm waiting to play the game until the European expansion is ready or, at least, someone make a mod to choose the buildings I want.

If you're playing with the official 1.06b version there is a bug which will limit custom building grow to a very restricted number.

(Level 5 4x4 residential high density will only let 4 different custom buildings grow... and reduce the number of CO buildings to 4 different too).

It seems to be corrected in the 1.07c beta, so will certainly be ok for everyone soon.

Anyway I'd like to have an option to plop any growable building too, just because some of the custom buildings on the workshop might look fine in the previews but most of the time will look awful when zoomed out. I'd like to be able to see if a custom is good immediatly instead of waiting patiently for it to grow and discover days later that it is crap and then have to bulldoze it).

Thank you, Zed68, it's good to know this ^^
In Cities XL I used to build the whole city with ploppable buildings, it is a bit exhausting but, this way, you can build a city exactly like you want.
That's GREAT and we should've the option to do that.
