Does anyone know of an up-to-date tutorial that covers 'all aspects' of successfully building a very large City. I am looking for a tutorial that 'does not use mods' and is preferably step by step from start to finish. It would also be a bonus if the presenter also had most of the DLC as of late 2018. hehe ... not asking for much am I. :)

I started toying with this game a few years back not to far from it's release. I was then following a guy on YouTube that goes by the name of ImperialJedi. He is very easy to listen to and gives excellent advice all the way through his builds. Absolutely love the guy. Unfortunately getting a reply from him is not so easy. Understandably of course.

Rather than start back to his previous series → Cities: Skylines - New Player Guide / NO MODS

I started on this one → Cities: Skylines - How To Series - NO MODS

The latter one seems to have more DLC and thus a lot more options that effectively and more enjoyably enhance the vanilla experience. Very much so imo. The latter series also seems to have a more organic and finely tuned layout as well. Naturally so for a Jedi! None the less my experience is very limited as I did not make it far in the New Player Guide when I first started. Sadly for me, after meticulously following his updated How To Series (linked above) pixel by pixel, I got to the final video only to find out the next episode he refers to is not listed in his playlist. I am grateful and all ... but after all the work I put in I could not shake the feeling of an abandoned building. I have a new found respect for them now.
________________________________________________

ANYHOWS ... I am not ready to go off on my own just yet. I have a compulsive issue that needs addressing. So I repeat:

If anyone knows of an up-to-date tutorial that covers 'all aspects/dynamics' of successfully building a very large city, that 'does not use mods' and is preferably step by step from start to finish; I would really appreciate it. Again it would also be a bonus if the presenter had most of the DLC as of late 2018.

The game has changed so much in such a short time. An up to date full city build would be just the ticket I need at this time. I can't underestimate the need for all aspects of the game presented withing a comprehensive full series guide. There is simply too much info and my head hurts having to seek out every aspect separately. Not to mention ... when your not in the know ... that can take an extremely long time. My neurotic and dyslexic traits make doing such a near impossibility for me, but make the potential for permanent distraction heavily bliss once I nail the intricacies of this game.

Thanks Guys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

have you actually dived headlong into the game and started building yourself? is there anything in particular you're not clear on?

Hey there 'prismaticmarcus,' The first thing I did was jump straight on in, however ran into quite a few bottle necks. I have like a zillion questions but won't weigh anyone down just yet. I do struggle with comprehending others a lot of the time which makes me think about what Timmysoboy say's above about his perception on the above link not being much of a tutorial for himself. For instance I think the link given 'T4rget Gaming' is a good one. I can respect what is being offered up there very much, however I am in agreement with Timmy's assessment of not being for me either. One of the best guys I know from a tutorial perspective is in fact ImperialJedi. None the less ... there are others just as good as he.

Going back to your point on just jumping head on marcus. I've decided to do just that with what I have learn from the Jedi and will maybe make a blog here and ask questions as I need.

I'll link my own blog if I ever get one started. Make up my own imperfect tutorial guess. :) Given I struggle comprehending others, it's probably the best way for me to learn.

In the mean time if anyone knows of a full blown vanilla guide from start to finish as I originally requested ... please do list your favorites. Just because one may not suite me, does not mean it might not suite another.

Real men don't use mods.
Heh, I appreciate the joke. I can see that you sometimes want to look what the vanilla game can achieve on its own. Personally, I just don't like to struggle with the vanilla interface if you can have it so much easier, but if you have the time and/or patience, why not. I'm fine with that my current city works the vanilla way.

@OP: By the way, there's always the possibility to download some vanilla city from the workshop and see what works and what doesn't.

Why no mods, if I may ask? This is not meant judgmental in any way, I'm just curious.

Hey there Turjan, srry for the delay response. Australia here and I was once again up into the we hours playing guess what!

That's a question that get's asked a LOT, and why not given all those awesome mods and workshop items. I can't wait till I get back into the mods. Some I have already tried and agree they very much enhance the game. My my reason is that I have not completed all the achievements.

I got to say though that since coming back to the game in my steam library and adding all the dlc; the vanilla experience is a hell of a lot easier with respect to laying out roads as well as further enjoy an already awesome game. I don't feel I am missing anything to be quite honest. Now that said, I know different. All the veteran players players keep talking about 'must have' mods ... and once I have read more about this or that mod ... YEP ... "I must have!" Alas I have a compulsive disorder that requires I MUST complete all the achievements. Once I do that ... I know I will be ready for this game.

That's pretty much my excuse.

Thx for asking.

Thanks for the links Cedara.

I gave it another bash last night and have a few questions I will formulate a bit later on. Is good to see so many people willing to help. I think my incessant need to understand the finer details does my own head in; as well as others. I explain later.

Yeah, no problem, and thanks for the answer. I had also been playing the game without mods for a very long time, so I can see that. And when you start with stuff like Move It! and some of the road tools, it's hard to go back. It's easy to go overboard with assets, too, which is why I play without custom assets at the moment, and without any mods that change the simulation mechanics. Enjoy the game!

The mod for not using mods ... hmmmm ... I have tried using it. Once you start with one mod, then like you say ... more follow. I am not sure if it was the using a mod to used mods that broke my game ... but using mods somewhere in all that did. I got sick of having to uninstall or de- register and or google how to fix the issue. Using the mod to use mods did not work for me. At any rate ... like I was just saying in another post, learning pure vanilla will teach me better imo. Once I get all the achievements with mods, I will truly appreciate using them.

Good point about the simulation mechanics. Although there are a few I would change. :) The people walk way too fast for my liking at the so called normal speed.

With regards to styles and those useful sound mods like move it ... the game is like painting for me. Once I nail the road layout, traffic, mass transit, service placement and all other things ... painting the skyline is what I think it's all about. That and watching all within do their thing. Watching trees grow is cool as well. Hell, I would love just sitting back and watching the grass grow. Hence why I struggle with the rampant going ons at normal speed. I don't mind the buildings gong up like they do, but the people in my book would be a hell of a lot calmer and I might even slow the vehicles a little. The helicopters seem to be at a good relative speed.

Just grow your city a bit larger, and everything will move at a glacial speed if you don't have a very good computer. You can look at one of my ("vanilla") cities, if you want. It's a bit larger and, at least on my computer, much slower.

The mod that enables achievements cannot break your game btw. It's just one line of code that switches one value that doesn't do anything but tell the game whether you get achievements or not. This is not to persuade you to use this, but it's good to get a feeling for which mods have the possibility to break your game and which don't. Most don't.

I haven't used mods/assets in a long time. I miss some, but mostly okay without them.

Too addictive. Always "just one more asset". One more mod. Next thing I know, it's 20 minutes to load a game.

If I could have just one mod, it would be "Move It".

I like T4rget's series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf5JvUNB5dBzsHeNpVkPlhd_WUEeDWKH_

There are many episodes, and he adds DLC as the series goes on.

Just wanted to let you know I have started following T4rget's Design and Manage Series. 65 Videos is going to be huge but thus far into the 3rd I've got to say this guy is pretty good at covering all the important information along the way. I'm gelling pretty good with what I am seeing and hearing.

TY!

Glad to hear it! I only discovered it a couple weeks ago myself, and I've been making my way through it. He makes some crazy good designs.
