Seeing what PDX has done with C:S makes me wish for a cyberpunk/ancient city-builder from them.

I love Cities: Skylines. It's a genuinely brilliant game, and I'm forever finding myself wasting hours of my time in it. It's an easy game to pick up and play, and there's something just... satisfying about building your city however the hell you want to.

With this in mind, I really hope that Paradox come out with an ancient (Bronze age? Iron age?) or a cyberpunk C:S game somewhere in the future. The latter would certainly lend itself to the existing game design, whereas the latter would be a real opportunity to do something fantastic with the game mechanics (military stuff? famine?).

assuming you don't already own it but Banished is a good game that while not set in the bronze or iron age era it is set in the middle ages. Frost Punk might fit your cyberpunk idea

Appreciated, but not exactly the point of the thread. To add to that, neither Frostpunk nor Banished are cyberpunk/ancient in their settings.

Paradox had a survey a few weeks ago, specifically asking about builder games. They asked participants to rate their interest in different types -- including medieval builders and cyberpunk, but also space-builders and others too. So it seems like it's being considered. Me, I'd like to see a castle-builder with a detailed economy, strategic defense, and lots of intrigue. CK2 on a microscale. Maybe watch generations struggle to build a cathedral while they battle famine... that'd be so cool.

Given Paradox owns White Wolf and their IP, I'd love to see a World of Darkness city builder. Explore the ways Vampiric manipulations slowly crush cities, face issues of garouvs encroaching urbanisation, see the way a court of changlings can brighten a bohemian district, or study how the social push and pull of the sention war between mages drives your cities trends. Do you pick a side? or try to make a pure human place, constantly fighting the infiltrations? What do you do when Pentex offera sweet heart deal for your city in return for making it one of their key industrial sites.

I would definitely like to have a Bronze Age / Classical Antiquity city simulator functioning like Cities: Skylines with a hint of Caesar III in it (e.g. Empire / Trade Management tab, Armies etc). Ever since witnessing the city battles in both Total War: ROME II and Total War: ATTILA, just the thought of having a game centered around making those kinds of cities and potentially even defending them from enemies at that scale would be awesome.

I thought they were going to go that route when they created the Snowfall DLC. It was a winter specific map with winter stuff. I too was hoping for other themed maps, but apparently Snowfall isn't well received so it likely discourages development of similar expansions. I think Snowfall fails because you have to have specific Snowfall items and they won't work in other cities. People seem to want to use everything in one city for more variety.

Cyberpunk would be very cool, even if its just skins. Dystopian mechanics would even better like Megacorps doing their own thing and bullying you around and even fighting wars against each other with you left to clean up after them.
And the absolute best imo would be if you can get the Shadowrun license for it.

The real problem was it was all split off on its own maps. If they coudnt manage the seasons thing and applying it to all the maps, they shoudnt have done it at all, it was just a waste of potential and of desighn space.

I would absolutely love to see a Paradox Studios quality Fantasy City Builder but I don't know if CO is necessarily the best company for that specific sort of thing. Fantasy/Medieval/Ancient City Builders would have to be considerably more tied to Supply Chains (especially for food) and Martial Elements. CO does absolutely amazing games but the crowning achievement of their games tends to be Traffic Simulation and good Road Layout. Those would definitely be far less critical in those genres. That isn't to say they couldn't blow the socks of the genre if they decided to, it just isn't built on the amazing base they've got already.

I know because I was thinking of a Fantasy version of Skylines A LOT lately, considering WoW's writing drought.

I wonder why no one has done a city builder in a non-standard setting before.
Its usually only real world or historic (Ceasar and spinoffs). Sometimes you get Sci-Fi skins, but there is to my knowledge no Sci-Fi (let alone Cyberpunk) or Fantasy city builder which has special mechanics tied to that setting.

There is actually Ancient Cities in development, which is set during the Neolithic, however it's quite far off.

I do agree that most companies err towards the norm when it comes to city builders.

Dammit, now I want to build a city and have to deal with the occational dragon attack! :p
