With the Asimov patch, it appears that the Sectors are insistent on freeing all of my slaves. I've read the patch notes and didn't see anything about this. I'm wondering if this is intended behavior, or only under certain conditions, etc. Does anybody have any news/enlightenment about this?

Try quitting and letting the game update, then your slavery tolerance should be properly set.

I'm having this problem too, as a fanatic xenophobe/spiritualist race with decadent trait, all alien xenos in my sectors are getting constantly freed after the patch.

Already tried re-starting.

I had this as well in the beta. Have not checked in patch. Was fanatic militarist and xenophobe. Will check if fixed in patch.

I notice that none of the others who have posted are Collectivists. Are the slaves your own species, or a different one? The reason I ask is this from the patch notes:

* Only Collectivists can now enslave their own species

It would seem that this specific case(alien slaves) is not a bug but WAD given the above from the patch.

I was playing games in observe mode all weekend, the AI rarely if ever seem to use slaves now... in 1.1 they did regularly use slaves in a more proper way.

So the problem are not just the Sector AI, it is a general AI problem.

Yes, I'm not enslaving my own species, only aliens. The problem is not that I cannot enslave them, is that the Sectors' governments keep freeing them right after I enslave them. Since my species is decadent (and a minority), I need to have alien slaves to make the economy work (also, roleplay).

OK, tested how it works as a xenophobe with 100% alien slavery tolerance and various alien planets in my empire. What i found is actually worse than posted above:

1) the ai will emancipate alien slaves that work on energy, science and capital tiles (even if the output actually gets lower due to lack of happiness).
2) the ai will, on the other hand, enslave free aliens regardless of their ethos, producing significant numbers of malcontent slaves (those individualists were at least somewhat content before with propaganda broadcasts, as slaves their happiness dropped to 0%).
3) most significantly, the ai keeps enslaving, emancipating, enslaving, emancipating some of the pops again and again, for no obvious reason. A bit undecided aren´t we?

Why does the sector AI decide about this anyway? This is literally none of it´s business, even if it wasn´t bugged out.

I would posit that it isn't as bad as all that. The AI is liberally using slaves in my empire, there are more slaves than free in the sectors.

I play Xenophobes where I enslave any aliens and have slave procreation banned, so that my people can take over their planets and I can benefit from slave labour in mines until I get around to fully purging them.
Now my sectors keep freeing the Xeno scum. I'm not happy. At least give us an option to allow sectors to control slavery or not, then!

My sectors in my Fanatic Collectivist, Spiritualist empire enslaves pretty much anyone on a mineral or food tile that doesn't put them into the malcontent faction. Haven't noticed any constant back and forth enslaving/emancipation in 1.2 as of yet.
