Friendly warning: don't EVER use the "enable slavery" option in the sector settings. All that does is cause your sectors to enslave EVERYONE, even the pops working science and energy tiles, just mindlessly eating that -80% resource penalty.Worst of all, you can't fix this without spending huge amounts of influence and micro to manually un-add and re-add all the sector planets, because you are not allowed to emancipate or enslave any sector pops.

it would be nice if that option came with a giant "WARNING, DO NOT CHECK THIS", and also if it wasn't checked by default. I'm not fond of meta-level UI traps.

AFAIK it has been stated that currently the sector AI by design enslaves all xenos if country is xenophobe, was that the case for you?

if you're collectivist, if enslaves ALL pops. I specifically resettled some primary species pops there for science ahead of time, but the AI enslaved them anyway, leading to -80% across my entire empire.

Or just allow the sector ai to purge the dirty xenos and build synths to replace them....

Yeah as we cant build those synth anymore in the sectors ourselfes.

But I guess sector AI will never be smart enough to replace xenos with synths...at least not in an effective way. (like purge 2 Xenos; then build one Synth or use the population growth stop of purging to prevent growing new xenos)

I never understood xenophobe slaver empires. If I want to play a slaver empire, I'll go collectivist and enslave aliens only. Xenophobe is for purging aliens and I think the slavery bonus should be removed, to be replaced by something else. It makes no sense that you're afraid of aliens, but willing to enslave them to work for you.

*edit* As mentioned above, if you run collectivist, the sector AI appears to enslave correctly, only enslaving food and mineral POPs, as well as unhappy POPs.

I dont see it that way. They can die off while they are working for the empire. Most of the victims of the Gulag system died while working, while being de facto enslaved. Also the Jews were enslaved too and the Nazis did have no problem to use their labourwork despite all their disgrace. The "Endlösung" realy picked up pace when they realized that the war might be lost but before that slavery was the priority.

Also many people who are afraid of black people(racists) would like to own a black slave.

It is always the fear that they change your way of living or that you would have to share something (rights, wellfare etc) Slaves are not seen as threat. How could they? They are just objects.

I just think that collectivist is a better version of xenophobe, as it is now, and IMO xenophobe should have the slavery bonus removed, get a purging bonus instead (100% purge speed or something), since that would actually be useful, as well as letting you purge alien planets without losing control of them (extremely useful), and maybe some other bonus (economic bonus/happiness bonus, since your people love that you are killing alien scum).

As it is now, xenophobe is kinda weak and if you want to run a slaver empire, you might as well go collectivist, where you can still purge/enslave all you want, whilst also getting a functioning sector AI.

*edit* You shouldn't bring up real world events like that, might get the thread locked :p just saying.

Btw, racism =/= xenophobia. Racism is the idea that others of the same species are inferior. Xenophobia is a fear of outsiders. I don't think your comparison is valid.

I can agree collectivists are indeed the better version of xenophobes.

A bonus to purging would be great. I mean all of the billions of xenos you are mass murdering are expropriated at the same time.
I know maybe its kind of "not okay" to compare the holocaust with a video game but it is still one of the best examples of purging in our history.

The Nazis made a gigantic fortune with the money and goods they stole from the Jews they enslaved/killed.

So purging pops should bring you some treasures. That would also compensate the fact that you have an empty planet after doing it while for example some fanatic Individualist who conquers a planet can just use the economic power of a fully populated planet.

Or better idea; the devs could FIX slavery to work correctly in sectors, or allow us to manually control slavery in sectors.
This seems to be on the way for 1.5 anyway. Wiz has mentioned that there are new systems of specie specific 'rights' that can be assigned. Presumably this means you'll be able to assign specific roles to species based on traits, and the sector AI will prioritise accordingly.

So your brainy space shrimps could be set as preferentially scientists with slavery 'off'. Sector would then preferentially put them down on labs, and wouldn't enslave them. At least, that's how I hope it'll work.

Why are people talking about Xenophobe here? It has nothing to do with Xenophone. Take a look at the pic:

stellaris.jpg

Before I sectored it, my 1 primary pop working the science tile and 4 native pops working energy were free. After giving it to a sector, every single pop is enslaved, even my primary pop. This has nothing to do with xenophobe being bugged, slavery in general simply does not function in sectors.

you guys are forgetting one very important aspect of the xenophobe ethos. You can choose the individualist ethos while having slavery through xenophobe. This combo gives you +25 happiness through buildings as well. It's. Extremely powerful if you have thrifty+ intelligent main species because you conquer slave planets for minerals and keep your extremely happy main species on energy and science planets. Works fantastic with the mega corporation government.

Yay...
Make Mineral Sectors. Use your primary pop planets/sectors for science only. Or just go the route of tributiary altogether.

Or better idea; the devs could FIX slavery to work correctly in sectors, or allow us to manually control slavery in sectors.
Why do you make it sounds like this is not what they have been trying to since forever? Slavery like Robots and Purges are something the AI will never do "exactly as you would do it". They implied some general rework of the whole slavery/purge mechanic. To make it better controlable in a Large Scale Empire.

It makes no sense that you're afraid of aliens, but willing to enslave them to work for you.
Tell that to ancient Rome and Greece. Or any other ancient slaveholder state that did not have clear collectivist leanings.
That being said, it slavery might be gettin removed from Ethis with the Faction Rework. We will have to wait and see.

Btw, racism =/= xenophobia. Racism is the idea that others of the same species are inferior. Xenophobia is a fear of outsiders. I don't think your comparison is valid.
Same difference. The definition of what constitutes "Foreign" changes, but not much else about it:
With Stellaris Xenophobia, it is about actual Species differences. Wich might be near imagined with Subspecies.
In Racism it is about invented "Races" within the same species.
In Islamophobia it is about invented "unsurmountable cultural differences" between Islamic/non-Islamic world.

All 3 cases are Xenophobia, just with a slighly different definition of what the Xeno part applies too.

Not really, just put all the research and power on the world/sector your specie control, let the slave planet feed you mineral.
