The sectors are a great idea but the implementation leads to a black-box behavior that's completely opaque to the user. One way of fixing this without breaking anything would be to add and option to show sector wide (or even for each planet) plots that show past values and future projections of quantities such as population growth, production of energy and mineral credits, etc. A similar thing is present in the game Plague, Inc.; there you can get charts of of how the traits (infectivity, mortality, etc.) of your disease have been changing with time.

Since this is all handled internally by the AI it would be easy to compute and plot these values so that the players would know what's happening with the sector. It would be particularly useful if we could get some kind of future projections even approximate ones; that would greatly simplify planning for the future.
