I had a new colony founded in the middle of many science sites. So I wanted it specialize in science. But when I wanted to annex the third sector, which was dominated by a science site, so it could only become a science sector, I couldn't annex it, because "I had already the maximum number of this kind of sector".

I can't find anything in the documentation about a maximum number of same exploitation types. What if I am on an island with only water sectors neighbouring? Can I only annex two sectors then?

And two sectors of the same time, that is only moderately specialized, it means it only took one 'specialization' sector above one sector.

Yeah, you can only take 2 of each. It's understandable in the sense that there are two ways to develop each sector with the buildings. Allowing 3 would mean duplicating one of the paths, and the game is not balanced around that since the effects of each path are quite powerful.

I don't mind it too much with land sectors, since the the other especializations can bring something interesting. But it's especially annoying with water sectors when you have an island and can only attach those.

There are third paths that can be unlocked via later research though, like the Elite unit bonuses for production sectors, or the status resist + cosmite discount on science sectors, or the energy bonus for water sectors. Either way, a colony that can take all three options is gonna be crazy strong.

As they say, you can only get two of the same sector type. If for a landmark a sector can only be of a give type then you need to get it before you got two other of the same kind. You can't unannex a sector, i think, but you can demolish the developments on a sector to un-science it, freeing one of the science sectors slots :)

As for a documentation on this... well, besides each kind of sector it says 0/2 or 1/2 or the type of sector don't appear :)

For the Science Colony, you can use other Exploitation types to support Science. Orbital Relay Exploitation gives you a boost to anything. Hydro Exploitation will synergise with anything except Production. A Production Exploitation with a Civil Engineering Guild will allow you to dump all that excess Production into Science. It looks like the new Exploitation type is a general boost as well.

As for a Colony on a single sector island. Not a good idea.
You can Annex as many sectors as you are normally allowed to, but you are only able to build two Hydro Exploitations. So unless there is some available land nearby, don't colonise that island.

A Production Exploitation with a Civil Engineering Guild will allow you to dump all that excess Production into Science.

How does that work?

I had been wondering about that Civil Engineering Guild, it is an investment that will only pay when you have built a lot of buildings, and meanwhile you have lost the opportunity cost of shifting your whole build queue back. I never saw a mentioning of a bonus for science production.

It work by using the option to make science on the city. Cities always produce things, when you run out of buildings you either set them up to produce energy or science. Unless there is something wrong with your game the option should be there :)

It's not in the documentation because the UI speaks for itself.

See the "some number" / 2 in the sector production tab of the UI. That /2 speaks for itself

So this building makes not only producing other buildings cheaper but also energy or science?

The bonus production per building built in the colony also get converted.

Although you have to remember that the bonus only active at production sector lv 3 or higher with civil engineering building in it
