Actually, I agree, it is somewhat troublesome not being able to search, but not solutions that I know of.

I saw it somewhere (although I can't search to find it) that it had something to do with security, maybe? Or privacy, I forget. Don't ask me how it affects those, though, but I wouldn't know anything if it was technical, anyway
It seems to be gone. The search function has been disabled for a long time now due to security issues if I remember correctly, and numerous threads in the General discussions forums have been opened questioning why. It should be up again when they fix. I don't know when that will be.
