My friend tried to make a map of O'ahu & Faroe Islands and many more. He did create those maps, but was never happy with them, due to the fact, that there has always been a ridiculous highway coming out of nowhere. Why can't we have some sort of car ferries? The larger the city gets, the more cars would be transported to the islands. They'd stay there and the goods would all come by boats. so basicly instead of having a highway connection to the starter sector, we would have a ferry port and a cargo port(which we could both delete and rebuild somewhere else if we'd want). The game can be really immersive and realistic, but this would help it a whole lot :)

What do you guys think about it?

Colossal Order please please please add this!

Other people have played island cities. IIRC, you need to use the unlock all option and place a passenger harbor and cargo harbor and cims will come to the island by boat. I think you can use the airport for cims as well.

sure but that doesn't fix the fact, that there is a giant highway on the ocean

It would be nice to have a theme or something that provided for this type of map so you did not need to cheat or use unlocks just to play it. "Mass Transit" Ferries could help.

You can do it though, "Seenu" by Strictoaster is a good example.

Strictoaster mentions the roads added on the edge of the map here (07:26):

@Steeltide I'm having trouble understanding what you disagree with in my post.

Part one I said it would be nice to have a feature in-game that allows for no highways. This seems to be what you want, so I doubt you'd be disagreeing with that. Unless you don't want to use ferries, should CO implement that ability somehow.

Part two is a simple statement of fact with proof.

I mean yes the basic idea is right. but of course i see the islands as an oversee island. I mean i'd like to see 2 types of ferries. like car ferries so u can transport vehicles from one island to another and also a sort of larger oversea cargo ferry. do u know what i mean?

Yup. You only need some stubs in the border fog.
Not sure why anyone would disagree with this statement. This is literally all you need. You won't see it. You definitely don't need any road across the ocean.

Would it be nice to be able to get away without this? Sure. On the other hand, you should be able to spare those two seconds of your time.

Lots of people asked for car ferries and cargo ferries but CO decided not to implement them. Really all you need is what @Turjan suggested and cargo harbors on each island. Cims have pocket cars and cars will appear on your islands.

A Finnish game with no car ferries?

I thought all the Finns drove on the ferry to Estonia for cheap booze....

Don't hate me, I learned it from polandball....

as Steve B. said, there's no need for car ferries since CIMs have pocket cars

As I know, usually Finns visit Saint Petersburg in Russia on passanger ferries for this goal. Same thing with border villages, filled with drunk Finns.
