Because only the starting monarchs/dukes are in the game.
All the other's will probably be random.

Don't let Braveheart fool you, he didn't rule Scotland :p he was a military leader, and pioneered the Scottish Skiltrun that was used so effectively against English cavalry in later wars.

Which brings up the question of real life leaders/nobles showing up. Will they be like leaders in EU and show up regardless of the situation?:)

He fought for England first. If you were playing England it would be easy to kill him off before he became a Scottish leader. :D

Umm, I don't think that the succession problems will even occur in the normal campaign, given that the game starts in 1066; by the 1290s, if the human player hasn't established a firm grip on Scotland, he doesn't deserve to be playing as Scotland. (I mean, 230 years into the game, you're either winning or you're gone, right?)

Hopefully, Edward I's reign will be a scenario. Lots of wars, castle building and such. if so, then wallace and the Scottish troubles should be in.

That would be nice for the Plantagenet house. But nothing special for the rest of Europe. He sure saw lots of action - a good deal of it before he became king.:)

O.

Sound highly unwieldy. Which clans to include? What subclans? What about highly Normanized border nobles whose families were not organized in the clan structure? I think that a gross simplification like you suggest, while a useful abstraction for game purposes, is laden with potential pitfalls.

I'd reckon chances of him (Wallace) showing up are quite good.
I'd imagine you'd get an event, and there's a new leader named Wallace created in one of the core provinces you own. (Like when Netherlands get Oranje, etc.)
So, thus the Poms won't be able to cut him down before his prime.
This seems completely feasible and would easily work with the EU1/2 mechanics.
