Babington-Smyth: Unable to make swift progress in the Mediterranean, and suffering heavy losses against the Mamluk’s, Scotland pursued a different stratagem – focusing first on Mamluk allies. .. Hedjaz was the major casualty.

bravo ! ! hit 'em where it hurts [make them fight alone] ! ! :D

Babington-Smyth: ...On 21st November 1689 the Mamluk empire signed over two rich gold provinces to the Scottish, the price for peace.

looks good to me ! ! :)

Babington-Smyth:
...War with the Ming Empire, and their allies, also ended that month – after almost two years of stalemate and inconclusive border battles.

acceptable ! ! :)

Babington-Smyth:
...But peace was not to last long. War was about to erupt much closer to home, in the heart of Europe....

Germany...

excellent updates ! !

comagoosie: Wow I am surprised that the Mamluks were able to put up that much of a defense. It shows that the scottish aren't invincible!

hmmm. looked like operator error, to me ! ! ;)

Qorten: Eww, sounds ominous. I'll have to check back a few updates to see who in Europe is able to stand up to the Scottish alliance. Unless, of course, you got yourself into a succession war with one of your allies. That would be fun!
That would be really good fun! Chaos unleashed etc, Not what happened sadly :p

demokratickid: My, I hope Austria is involved! :D
Close, but no cigar ;) Suspect that will be coming soon!

Enewald: Sometimes my eyes bleed blood when they see the normal EU3 provinces. They are all too huge and simplified. :p
Especially when you get outside Europe! I would offer to start again using a mod, but perhaps finish this first...

Montague: Good job keeping perspective andnot trying to do too much at once.
Thanks, picking the fight I actually have carefully!

comagoosie: Wow I am surprised that the Mamluks were able to put up that much of a defense. It shows that the scottish aren't invincible!
Indeedy. Have to admit, was slightly surprised that a decent Scottish-Castilian-Aragonese army couldnt get past the Nile. Given an extra year or two could have probably worn them down. But sooo not worth it.

GhonstWriter: excellent updates ! ! looked like operator error, to me ! !;)
Gracias, very kind. One mans error is anothers cunning diversion. Or something like that...

Merde! (1690)

Merde! (1690)

Since the 1630’s France had looked jealously on as all her European rivals expanded their empires. Aragon in southern Africa, Castille in the Pacific and Portugal, Austria and Poland across the Russian steppe, Burgundy in Australasia, Scotland everywhere. But France stood still.

Over time a war party grew within the French court, arguing for armed conflict to remake lost ground. They were convinced that neighbours entangled overseas would, if overrun, yield territory for a swift peace. In October 1690 their theory was to be put to the test.

frenchdow.jpg

Seeing only a token Scottish defence in Brittany, France declared war. 45,000 troops began advancing from Normandie and Anjou, outnumbering the Scots by 10 to 1. A further 34,000 troops were held in reserve along the Brittany border. Scottish garrisons, caught completely unawares, frantically gathered supplies and arms.

The main French fleet sailed out into the Channel, quickly destroying a small Swedish flotilla. Their mission: hunt down Scottish transports and prevent them reinforcing Brittany.

In the Caribbean too French forces were being marshalled. Scotland’s island possessions, in Barbados, St Thomas and Caracao, were all defenceless….

Some impressive deployments along the Brittany border. as always you'll almost certainly face some defeats, until you've gathered your widespread strength and totally obliterate the French, with the help of your good friends (they still are, are they?) Burgundy and Castille.

It took me hours to read this AAR, but it was worth it.

I presume that the dulcit melodical tones of Lowland Scots is currently the world Lingua Franca. The world truly is a better place just for that.

I am wondering what you are going to do with England. I hope you don't create GB in this. Preferably, you should reduce England to a one region vassal or gift the last English province to a French or German ally.

Perhaps you could give this gift to Burgundy for helping you in your coming scuffle with France.

demokratickid: Le France! My, my, my, they must be taught a lesson... :D
A lesson in humble pie has now been administered. Costly for both sides, but needed

comagoosie: I think you are making the AI sound smarter than it actually is :p
Probably, but it needs a break ;) plus story makes sense, france hemmed in on all sides, poor sods.

Enewald: Gallia Lugdunensis be Celtic.
Caledonii surely??

Assume you mean the french deployments not mine... ;) A good lesson in maintaining decent border defences. Troops brought in from Europe and South America, and good result in the end. Woo!

Avatar018: Just finished reading your AAR and I must say that I am impressed that Scotland managed to become the strongest nation on the planet. Continue the good work.
Thanks, and welcome! :)

Hi there, very impressed that you bothered to read the whole thing from start to finish! :) Lowland Scots present on every continent, and the language of global diplomacy  GB?? I should think not!! Scotland shall remain proud, independent and golden-coloured  England might be allowed to keep London. If they behave...

Thanks  Another on the way shortly!

Caribbean conquest (1690-2)

Caribbean conquest (1690-2)

Within a month of the French declaration of war Burgundian and Castilian fleets managed to break the blockade in the Channel. Scotland was able to ship troops to beleaguered Brittany. A series of bloody battles ensued. At Morbihan 12,000 troops died. 10,000 died at Armor a week later. Scotland was victorious in the twin battles, with both sides suffering roughly equal losses. But in the long run, Scotland would be better able to absorb the damage.

November 1690 saw a range of Scotland’s enemies in Asia also declare war, sensing she might be preoccupied with France in Europe and the Caribbean. Scotland was again at war with the Mughals and Vijayanagar.

battlemorbihan.jpg

Winter and Spring 1691 saw Scotland, Burgundy, Aragon and Castille all making advances at French expense. Each step forward was hard fought, but superiority of numbers was beginning to tell. At Armor a major French force, led by King Louis, was decimated with minimal Scottish losses.

In the Caribbean Scottish naval forces had eliminated the small French flotillas, and invaded Jamaica and St Kitts. Then England too declared war, though her prospects of progress against Scotland were surely poor….

englanddow.jpg

As 1691 ended Scotland and her allies crushed the last major French army during a major battle at Caux. Much of eastern and southern France was now under hostile occupation.

The time was ripe for a victors’ peace to free Scottish forces to concentrate on fighting her other enemies. France ceded the rich trade centre of Jamaica, along with the sugar island of St Kitts. She had been punished for her opportunism. Now the fight against the English, Mughals and Vijayanagar could continue undistracted…

Enewald: So many deaths, and just for two isles on the other side of the world.
Yes, the terrible tragedy of war, a common theme on these fora...ahem... Anyways, very scenic and valuable islands....

comagoosie: Anyways, it seems that since your biggest 'distraction' has been taken care of, the other countries that you are currently are war with will surely suffer :D
Indeed they do, just wait

Slinky: Sadly those countries will never learn. It's like cows standing in line for the abattoir :)
Not sure that analogy is quite right for India... But know what you mean ;)

demokratickid: Lovely gains in the Carribbean! :)
A nice holiday destination for the minor Scottish royals ;)

Montague: Mmmm, victory AND sugar....SWEET!
:D and a big fat centre of trade. third biggest in the world.
