Slinky: Why would the Scots keep advanced naval technology in a vault :p Great update :D
Thanks :) We keep all sorts of things in vaults... Our haggis supply... Our favourite kilt... But, in this case, its something more aggressive

Enewald: Claiming Isauria? :p Or just building a new navy to conquer it?
Isauria? Pah! Wouldn't touch the place! Aegyptus: now that would be cool... Though its nothing to do with them sadly ;)

Qorten: Yep, great update. A setup for new wars in the Med?
Cheers :) Well you've kind of guessed part of whats coming, all will be revealed soon :)

n.y.o: Good update!
Ta, very kind :) And welcome to AAR-land! Great to have your comments, keep them coming :)

Project Perfidious (1652)

Project Perfidious (1652)

The Scottish High Command in Bonnybridge held many secrets. But deep in its bowels lay vaults whose contents were so controversial, so clandestine – that only a small number of human beings had ever seen them and lived.

Inside one of those vaults, over a hundred metres below ground, lay a report. It had rested undisturbed for over a hundred years, bound by the seal of King Arthur I. Commissioned after Scotland had first signed her alliance with Castille, it was the product of a top secret war simulation held by the King and his Chiefs of Staff: Project Perfidious.

invasion1a.jpg

No, not that one… That’s better:

wargames.jpg

Word of the Project, and its findings, had been passed down from King to King. James knew from his brother that it contained detailed war planning, looking in particular at one of Scotland’s rivals for global dominance – and whether she could be beaten in war.

James, and his three advisors, deconstructed the report – and the scenarios it outlined. They, and a small team of military planners, re-ran the war games, over and over. Each time the outcome was different. This was all they needed. Confirmation that there was at least a chance of victory – something that had been ruled impossible a century before. Now the real preparations could begin….

insidepage.jpg

As 1651 turned into 1652 the latest wars in Eastern Europe neared their end. In Scandinavia the proud Swedish empire came to its final conclusion – its sole remaining territory (Finland….) annexed by Novgorod.

At Edinburgh University, and Scotland’s Weapon’s Manufactory in Ayrshire, a new breakthrough was made in cavalry equipment. New regiments of Gallop Cavalry could now be formed. Several were instantly commissioned, as James’ plan took shape.

swedenannex.jpg

Several months after Novgorod’s victory, Austria too announced new territories in the East. Kazan had offered her surrender to the Western allies, ceding Archangelsk and Mogilyov. Astute observers could begin to see a pattern in Austria’s territorial growth to the East. Archangelsk would give her the northern lynchpin of an arc to contain Novgorod within a small enclave. And with the acquisition of Mogilyov, Austria could cut a swathe through the centre of Lithuania in under a weeks’ travel time.

Meanwhile, the Scottish King Henry IV hired a new Diplomat, Franz Stefan Frantsits (4*), a specialist in repairing damaged relations and facilitating new royal marriages and alliances. Scotland desparately needed to repair her reputation, particularly in light of the plans that James was rapidly drafting and enacting.

newadvisor.jpg

December 1652 saw the second outbreak of plague in Edinburgh in two years. It also saw a second royal tragedy. On Christmas Eve Henry IV succumbed to the disease, just as his father had done. They had both transformed the size and wealth of the Scottish empire, through war and by uniting Scotland with Denmark. Henry would be missed by his people. Now, after two years as his brother’s right-hand man, James had a new role – the next King of Scotland.

The countdown begins (1655)

The countdown begins (1655)

Deep in mourning over the early death of his brother, James became James XIII of Scotland. Still a teenager, James was seen by many in the Royal court as tempetuous and headstrong. James cared little for the views of the courtiers and diplomats. His views had been forged at his fathers’ side, and in the bitter fighting he had experienced on the military campaigns against the Mali. He believed in Scotland’s manifest destiny, and her empire.

James, and the Scottish High Command, continued their war games into 1653. The King’s time was spent on little else. He devoted himself to considering every aspect of the war to come. It could make, or break, Scotland.

Suddenly the hive of activity ended. Several days’ later secret orders were dispatched to Scotland’s Generals and Admirals around the empire.

jamesxiii.jpg

Two years later, in June 1655, as if a secret flare had been lit, Scottish regiments and ships around the world sprang to life. In the space of a few days over 100,000 men were on the move.

In the Antilles, Scottish ships were seen transporting troops north from Barbados and St Thomas, past the European colonies at Dominica (Burgundy), Antigua and St Kitts (France), and Puerto Rico (Castille).

onthemoveantilles.jpg

Scotland’s scattered anti-pirate patrols and flotillas were being recalled. Ship after ship was seen rounding the Cape – heading for Europe.

onthemovecape.jpg

The astute observer would have seen several patterns in the Scottish troop movements. Firstly, a top priority seemed to be cannon and cavalry regiments, who were boarding ships across India and Asia, and leaving – bound for Scotland.

onthemovecormorincape.jpg

Secondly, across Nova Scotia, troop movements seemed to be heightened. Garrisons who had remained stationary for years were leaving their defences, moving towards Ohio, Delaware and Manhattan.

onthemovekentucky.jpg

Lastly, to the south of Nova Scotia, Scottish troops across the previously Danish and Incan territories were moving west in their thousands.

onthemovetiticaca.jpg

An empire was on the move. The final countdown to war had begun.

It will def be epic, slightly nervous! Its only a game. Its only a game  Next couple of updates will set the scene. Will defo go into the various fronts, but its going to be a proper world war

Enewald: Kill tha angls, let the saxon die in beer and make sacks from the jutes!!! And the normans, let them fight eachother with knighlt stuff.
 suspect it may be that bloody

demokratickid: Yes! I knew it was inevitable! Down with England and up with the Scottish Empire!!! :D
Like the "War of the Rats" suggestion  The war is on its way

Slinky: Oooh, I can't wait :D
Good good, will try and make it suitably exciting. As I haven't played the war yet, will probably just post as I get fighting underway. Kinda real time. Hopefully that will do :)

Here here!! Admit its slightly weak to build up for two centuries before taking on the auld enemy, but also gives a much higher chance of success ;)

Enewald: The ängälndrs must be afriad when fighting against black soldiers in scottish uniforms. Oh the horror.

What they will see marching towards the border very soon:

Slinky: STATS, give me STATS!
I want to see how your economy is doing compared to the rest of the world :)

Ok, some belated stats, even if it took me a week :eek:o

Scotland's number one position as largest income/GDP nation now firmly established  Overtook Burgundy a few years before inheriting Denmark, but Danish income has boosted lead (now 20-25% ahead of Burgundy rather than 5%). Long-term trend is for Scotland and Burgundy to grow strongly, constantly pulling away from everyone else  Mamluks income growing slowly, Timurids and Mecklenburg suffering as territories decline.

income.jpg

Danish inheritance also very positive for province-count. Total up from 160 or so territories to just under 200. Huge lead over neighbours. Burgundy, England and Austria all have 50-60 provinces each. France has just under 40. Number two in the world is Ming, who Scotland overtook with Vijayanagar and Incan conquests  They've now got about 130 territories I think

provinces.jpg

Hopefully enough stats for now ;) Proper update next day or two :)

Watch those France, they are slowly growing :p

Those Mamluks make a lot of money, but it is good to see the Scots well established in both fields.
