Hah, offering White Peace! Such folly, to think mighty Scotland will just accept that. Why would the Scots attack, if not to take some nice rich land off them?

comagoosie The question is not whether or not you will win, we known you will win greatly, so the question is, what 3-4 provinces are you hoping to gain? :D Good luck on your battles, not like you need it ;)
Ilike the confidence :) Ideally id get a few more in southern india, and not open up any new borders with the punjab, ming etc. We'll see...

GhostWriter: most excellent ! ! that is much better than a long war ! ! :D splendid updates ! !
thanks :) hopefully be fairly short

Enewald Odd that the vjiayanagari never learn anything from these battles, maybe adopt something called 'musket'. :p
Or "make powerful new allies so scotland has to think twice...."

Tuscan sunset (1637-8)

Tuscan sunset (1637-8)

While Scotland advanced in Asia, war in Europe rumbled on.

Austria had finally transferred forces west to deal with the impudent Venetians. By April 1637 Istria, and Venice itself, were occupied and Austrian forces under Alexander I brought the Venetians to a decisive battle in Verona. Two brothers, the Alvise’s, commanded the remaining 8,000 Venetian troops. Austrian forces, 18,000 strong, took to the field with great confidence - and a bloodthirsty desire for revenge.

On April 13th Venetians forces were defeated, and scattered. In the following months her remaining forces fled from province to province, never again winning a battle against the Austrians. The Doge’s gamble on Austrian entanglement in the east had failed. Tuscan armies now stood alone against Austria in the West. Within the Austrian empire the population grew increasingly despondent. She had been continually at war for almost a decade, and there was no sign of victory in the east. Sporadic peasant revolts began to break out.

Surprisingly, Mecklenburg successfully pushed south into Ottoman territory, the first country to make progress against her.

Ten months on, Venice was still refusing to admit defeat. But with her armed forces destroyed and her territory occupied she had little hope. Tuscan forces had been decisively defeated by Poland, and her homeland occupied.

In the east, Austrian forces were pushed back by Kazan from two territories. Many at the Austrian court feared the war with Kazan had developed into a bitter stalemate. Tired of the bloodshed, Kazan’s ally Sibir withdrew – paying Austria over 70 ducats.

On 4th February 1638 a new war erupted. Norway, provoked by border disputes, declared war on Mecklenburg. France joined Norway’s side, with Brandenburg and Poland siding with Mecklenburg. Denmark, ruled by the Scottish King John II, honoured her alliance with Norway. Scotland formally remained on the sidelines of the war, but began her biggest ever aid programme, supplying large war subsidies to Denmark.

Three weeks later Tuscany finally surrendered, and became a vassal of Austria. She also renounced all claims on lands outside her home province. Kazimierz VI, the Polish King, annexed Istria from Venice – who still fought on.

Finally, in December 1638 Venice and Austria made peace. Venice released the Papal State, renounced territorial claims and paid damages.

In the East, Kazan made further advances into Austrian territory, capturing Moscow.

As the year drew to an end, Mecklenburg advanced into south Denmark, with combined Danish and Norwegian forces unable to hold back their technologically advanced adversary. The Scottish High Command, still embroiled against Vijayanagar, began to consider the unthinkable – directly intervening in another European war….

Mecklenburg is doing great. Even with the release of the papal states the small countries seem to be dying out.

Qorten: End of the Scottish isolationism? I'd definitely support it! Go Denmark and go Scotland!
Isolationism? Only 5 years ago I was fighting half of europe! Anyways, looks like denmark is using the aid wisely...

Slinky: Mecklenburg is doing great. Even with the release of the papal states the small countries seem to be dying out.

Enewald: Some big european wars. Good that they are never fought on scottish mainland. :D
No war on the soil of scotland since the 1450's. Evil frenchies. Fingers crossed there won't be again!

Burma burning (1638)

Burma burning (1638)

As the New Year began, Vijayanagar made their second bid for peace with Scotland. John II rejected it immediately, and Scotland’s sieges continued.

After her armies had been decisively defeated by Scotland, Deva Bengal offered her surrender.

peaceoffer.jpg

At the end of January major battles raged at Prey Nokor and Rayong. Both were won by Scotland, with minimal losses. In Burma, thousands of Vijayanagari troops rushed towards the main front with Scotland – hoping they could stem the tartan advances.

21janrayong.jpg

Virtually all of Vijayanagars Indian territory was now occupied by Scotland. Small remnants of her armies fled from province to province, chased by Scottish forces.

But a final pocket of organised resistance lived on in Goa. Protected behind Vijayanagar’s most developed fortifications, their King Achyota I rallied 7,000 troops – including his 3,000 royal cavalry. A Scottish army, 10,000 strong, and led by Duff Lindsay began their assault – seeking a decisive victory.

goabattle.jpg

To the East Scottish armies forced a second decisive battle, at Ligore. Munroe Murray’s 10,000 men took the field against 7,000 Vijayanagari.

9may.jpg

As the dust settled at Ligore 2,400 Vijayanagari soldiers lay dead. At Raichur Doab, Achyota I and his army – fleeing after their defeat in Goa – were chased down and routed again. 3,000 lay dead in exchange for only 318 Scottish lives.

In Burma, at Ratchburi, the Scottish attacked again. In the east, as in India, Vijayanagar’s armies were slowly being eliminated as a fighting force.

Sorry for huge gaps. Work is veeeerrrry busy at the moment! So knackered, but fitting in social life, just Europa/blog suffering  Anyways: Mecklenburg do deserve a biff! Sadly their land tech us 5-6 levels higher than Scotland, and second highest in the world, so may not be that advisable....

Assimilate Mecklemburg and add their technological advantages to your empire! (and don't let them feed you a "line of bull" in the process) :D

With the time between updates it feels like the war is going on for a very long time :p

I don't mind though as long as you don't abandon it. ;)

Enewald: Ah, and the invading just continues. Just annex them with an event. :D
Now that would be cheating, much better 4-5 consecutive wars where the outcome is never greatly in doubt....

comagoosie: Yeah mecklenburg is the tech leader! :D
anyways, Burma is burning and so is Viggy. Too bad you won't get too much out of them :(
Should be on track for 2-3 new territories, and Viggy have a few rich ones left at that. And Mecklenburg are pretty advanced, along with Novgorod???

Montague: Assimilate Mecklemburg and add their technological advantages to your empire! (and don't let them feed you a "line of bull" in the process) :D
Resistance is futile... War with them would involve fighting half of Europe, and wreck my century-old alliance with Burgundy. Maybe not.....

Slinky: With the time between updates it feels like the war is going on for a very long time :p I don't mind though as long as you don't abandon it. ;)
No danger of that, just need to remind myself what the heck I was doing, where key armies and navies are etc.... Re-reading the AAR very helpful ;)

Remnants (1638)

Remnants (1638)

As summer wore on, Scottish troops won a series of further devastating victories. At Ratchaburi the Vijayanagaran general ordered his troops to fight to the last, and die where they stood. No surrender. After a six day battle every single soldier of the 4,219-strong force lay dead. At Pattani over 2000 more Vijayanagari breathed their last. Vijayanagari hopes rested on their territories in burma and northern thailand, which had remained free from Scottish advances in previous wars. The last line of defence stood at Ayutthaya, which had been heavily fortified. A fresh Scottish force, landed by sea from Makassar, encircled the enemy garrison at Ayutthaya and began to attack.

8july.jpg

On 12th August 1638 the last siege on the Indian mainland was over, and Goa fell. Across the Vijayanagaran empire, rag-tag armies were pursued and eliminated by Scottish forces.

12aug.jpg

As 1638 drew to a close, Scotland began to advance fully into the final two Vijayanagari strongholds – North Thailand and Indonesia.

Then, on 13th November, news shook the Scottish High Command. Several thousand miles away from the front lines a new war had broken out. The Inca, sensing that Scotland was heavily committed in Asia, and maintaining large land forces in Europe, seized an opportunity. They declared war on Scotland, and an army 4000 strong began moving towards the Scottish border.
