Scotland (1502-1505) Part 5.

Alright my 5th installment

1502
February
The war with England made our inflation go to 4%. We must keep it down. On the 14th the Teutonic Knights make peace with Denmark with taking Eastern Prussia from them. The Teutonic Knights bold well from thier war. We try to make peace with the Hanseatic League on the 19th but they reject it. We need to make peace with this leader in the future so we don't incure war exhastion. On the 27th we expand in Venice 3 times and now have 4 merchants in the best centre of trade in the world. We also have 4 in Flanders 5 in Andalusia and 1 in Genoa.

March
Today in a cerimony in Hull I was promoted to the rank of Viscount. I was greatful to our king for this. We have high hopes for the future now. We plan in the coming years to push into the English territory with France backing us all the way. With a powerful ally as them we may even expand off the island one day. We need to build our navy up. I tell our king troops are more important for now. He agrees but says after our second war in the future we may have to take Meath and Calias if the French don't take it first. One day he tells me we will drive into Europe and he has high hopes for our people. He also remembers the heartache our people indured to the English years before and plan to return the favor to them.

April
Spain rejects our purposal for a white peace. We need to end of the wars with who we have. I hope France lays off wars for a while.

May-July
We sent a mechant to flanders and the hanseatic league lost a merchant so they attacked Yorkshire on the 27 of June (I guess they got pissed off that we put the guy out of business so his brother of the businessman must have been a general or something). Anyways we destroy them in Yorkshire but the bastards loot the land. We ask them for peace again but they reject it.

August-December
In these months we sent a merchant to Flanders and to Novagrod. The one in Flanders expanded the one in Novagrod but another Hanseatic League. We also had a fleet battle with the Hanseatic League which we lost. We do need to up our warships and transports sometime in the future.

1503
D43
January
Recruited 7000 infantry in Yorkshire. We need troops for a future war with England. We also sent peace envoy's to Spain and they rejected it. But on the 15th France made peace with spain and gave Dauphine to Spain. So only the Hanseatic League and allies to deal with.

February
We assembled the 7000 troops and now we have 20,000 troops. We sent another merchant to Novogrod.

March
Flanders lost a Merchant and went out of business. Novogrod expanded though so we have 4 merchants in Flanders 5 in Anduasia 1 Genoa and 4 in Venice.

April-August
In these months we send merchants to Venice and Flanders and they only expanded in Flanders. Also the Hanseatic league invaded for the second time but we destroyed them utterly. They reject peace again.

September-December
In these months we sent a merchant to Novogrod and it expands but 1 merchant in Venice goes out of business. There is a war between Pskov Russia verses England and the Teutonic Knights.

1504
January-April
We sent another envoy to the Hanseatic league but they rejected peace again in January. We send two merchants to novograd but no results. In April of this year we made peace with the Hanseatic league meaning there are no wars in our land and peacetime insues. Also peace with Spain and the Pope with the Pope receiving Frence Comte. There is a war with Spain and this new nation called the Aztecs. We don't know how powerful they are and can become a threat to us if we arn't careful. The new world has wonders the can sparkle the eye and terrors that can dim the soul as told by our Spanish spies.

May-October
We competed a merchant away from Russia in Novogrod. The nation of Persia has declared war on the Uzbeks. We sent a merchant to Venice in June. In July Venice, Hungry, the Memeluks and Narvarra declare war on Turkey and Georgia. Turkey is growing in strength and we must watch them. In October we sent another merchant to Venice in hopes we get 5 there which will be profitable.

November-December
Pskov is annexed by the Teutonic Knights. Venice looses a merchant in Venice. Venice rejects a royal marriage.

1505
D61
January
Merchant sent to Venice on the first.

Keep France as an ally for as long as you can.!! I played Scotland once and managed to take all of Ireland and England (except Anglia). I then proceeded to make several questionable choices on where to expand to and paid a heavy price. Always be careful on what goals you chose.:(

as storey said, keep france as an ally as long as possible. whenever your alliance expires, renew it, lest the french get new allies. and don't feel hesitant about declaring war on england from time to time. the best time to DOW them (IMHO) are when they change religions (from catholic to protestant, and again from protestant to RP). i DOW'ed them both times, and have taken all of britain save anglia, cornwall, essex, and one other province. basically, england is confined to the extreme southern part of the isle of britain, and ireland.

Scotland AAR (1505-1509) Part 6

1505
February
We now have 5 merchants in Venice since it expanded and are raking in the ducats from that centre of trade.

March-August
In these months we send two merchants to Novgorod. We also sign a marriage agreement with Venice. In August we attempt a royal marriage with Brandonberg but it is rejected. Also in August the Teutonic Knights make peace with Russia, Ingermanland to the Teutonic Knights.

September-December
During these months i sent another envoy to Brandonberg for a marriage agreement which they refused. I also sent two merchants to Novogorod to expand there. The month after we competed and Russia lost a merchant there. We lost two merchants in Venice which made me angry a bit because it was in December.

1506
D58
January
This month I was shown a calverin, a type of cannon used for a ship. We now mounted those on our five warships in our fleets. We do need to build more ships but they are expensive. We hired 14,000 infantry troops in Yorkshire for the impending war with England. We hope that we can plan an offencive as soon as the treaty is done.

February
Russia, Ryazan, and Denmark declared war on the Golden Horde and Astkahan. Russia seems to be gaining a lot of power and provinces by doing this.

March-December
During these months we send 3 merchants to Venice which expand only once. We also sign a marriage with Brandonberg. Not to much happens during these months. Scotland is at peace and we are building up towards a conflict.

1507
D59
January
We loose a merchant with Venice which makes me annoyed but the centre of trade is very popular. We also recruit 5000 infantry and add them to our army in February.

February-March
We sent another merchant to Venice and we succeed in the kings mission of keep Yorkshire. So I am rewarded for it and the kings only demand is to keep Yorkshire once more.

April
On the first of this month we declare war on England and march to Lincon. England marches to Yorkshire. Our allies join us in this fight from the mainland they mount an attack on Callais. Our allies are France, the Pope, Savoy, and Brittany.

May
On may 17th we win the assault on Lincon and we march to something even greater London. Our king in a speech on the battlefield tells of our great glory that awaits us and the revenge of the English presence in his country years before. William Wallace would be proud of us and we will give him the revenge he sought more then one hundred years before.

June
This month is a glorious one for our armies. The seige on the river Thames. We see many citizens of the great city of London and we pray for the civillian population for our seige on thier military. We must do this and we start seiging thier great walls. I myself go on a spying mission into thier castle and catch a glimpse of Henry VII making war plans with his council. They look very mad right now so i escape and report to our king. He is very pleased with me. He also states that this seige will take a year maybe. I sigh and we begin attacking the city this month. Those bloody English are tough and thier walls don't budge.

July
The bulk of the English army move from Yorkshire to Lincon and begin to seige it. We left a garrison there and hope that they hold out. We have high hopes for that city and hope that we last longer then they do. If we take thier capital the English will crumble before us. Many Scottish brothers are seiging the great city. They pledge loyalty to our king. One of them approaches me. 'Sire I am in your service.' 'I am Connor Macloud of the clan Macloud' I look apon him and smile. 'For the king'! He charges away and seiges the castle.

August-December
The seige of the great city of London continues. The Pope makes peace with the Hanseatic league in August paying 156D. Astkahan makes peace with Russia in November and pay 150D.

1508
D59
January
Hired 7000 troops in Yorshire. We are still seiging london It will take a while still.

February-June
The Golden Horde pays Ryazan 113D and takes Lujbyschew in February. In May Turkey signs peace with Hungry and gains 123D and Croatia. In June England signs peace with Savoy and England gives up Callais to them. This move makes France have no CB again England. Spain signs peace with the Azteks the same month and gain 200 ducats and take Tuxpan.

July
In this month a naval disaster happens when the England lead an operation in Lothain and destroy 3 of our 5 warships. Our navy is down to 2 warships and the King is worried we wont have navel power anytime soon. On a happier note we take London and capture king Henry the VII. Lincon is taken by England the same month and they seige Yorshire. We move back to Lincon to recapture it.

August-December
We seige Lincon and England moves back to thier capital and seiges our garrison there. During these months Turkey and Georgia declare war on Moldavia and Poland. The seige and both cities continues.

1509
D59
January
Inflation is at 6%.
We hire 7.000 more troops in Yorkshire. The seige of Lincon and London continues.

February-April
We send troops to the midlands that we hired in February. Lincon falls in April and we now have two cities under our control. We march to the Midlands now as England seige of London continues.

May-October
England signs peace with Brittany and pays 200D in May. We send two merchants to Venice in June and offered royal marriages to Genoa and Austria which were refused. We expand in Venice in July. In August we make an army development of artillary support and teach it to our troops. We now have superior army technolgy to Englands.. (We think :)) In September we take the Midlands making us have 3 provinces of Englands England sends us an envoy for the return of thier king. We refuse and march to Bristol. On the 8th of September we seige the City and take it in 15 days. England sends us an envoy and we accept Bristol, the Midlands and Lincon for the return of thier king. This is a great day in Scottish history. We have split thier territories in half and taken 3 major provinces. Our king's army is greatly damaged but we will repair and reform the army. Peace atlast settles in and I was promoted to Count in October. The people are restless though and I expect rebellion in the English provinces in the future. We must prepare for another war in the upcoming years. For now Scotland is safe once more. I give our quick victory at Bristol at the new technolgies we have developed. Soon England will be no more and our King will be king of all the isles. Long live Scotland! Long live James IV! Long live Connor Macloud!... umm wait a minute ;)

FREEEEEDDDOOOMMM!

way to go! you can expect a few revolts in the former english provinces. i encountered them in my current game. but revolt risk decreases every few years, so as long as you hold onto the provinces, the revolt risk will eventually return to 0%. now, do you plan on continuing the conquest of england? i wouldn't move too fast, though. like you said, revolt risk will be a factor for a while, and you must rebuild your army and navy. taking those cloth provinces will really hurt the english economy in the long run. in my game, i've pretty much crippled england, having taken (in a recent war) all but one of her north american colonies and a shipyard at meath (england annexed ireland early on in my game. curious to see ireland still hanging on in yours).

you can easily attack england again when they change religions. their stability will drop to -3, and they'll be ripe for the pickings. :D

did you steal any maps from england when you sacked london? plan on sending any colonists to the new world?

I do plan to but i need to go reformed before i get any colonist at all. I will also build a ship yard then also. It's still sometime off. Id rather go and attack England early, Take it and worry about rebellions afterwards. Then i plan on going Reformed and start my colonial empire. My tech is going sort of slowly but i will have some healthy provinces with France in the new world when i go reform. Anyways i hope i can build some sort of navy so i can head to meath in 10 years and take it. Then i will be able to annex england. Ireland will be easlier probably but I have hopes to take it all by 1550. Rebellions will incure but my BB is low because i keeped one CB against England. I will make another report tomorrow but i need to do things tomorrow so it will be up tomorrow night probably. Thanks for your comments all and Nines.

guy,

ever consider staying catholic? in the game i got, i think only one of the scottish provinces is protestant. the rest remain catholic. so if you change to protestant, which u could do, you might have some religious unrest. i've kept scotland catholic well into the 1600's in my game, and i went CR as soon as i could to get the colonist. then the edict of tolerance came up, and it changed me back to catholic, so i changed back to CR. :D remeber that as CR u can always convert england back to catholic. they will inevitably turn protestant again, and you got a perma CB right there. :D though you could do well as protestant too. you got a number of options.

consider building some naval manufactories in the fish provinces. that will greatly help you stay even in naval tech. in me game, i got maps not from the english but from the french and spanish. i traded knowledge with the french and stole some rutters from the spainish in a lucky sea battle. i also got two random conquistadores which explored a lot of north america for me.

annex england early, before they get their colonial dynamism kicked in (around 1560 or so). otherwise you'll have to track their colonies down, and that's a pain in the ass.

anyway, good luck with the next chapter.

What a lovely shade of green that map is turning! And much faster than mine I might add :), have to take some notes on this AAR.

You might not have gotten maps from them because of how early it is. England's expolartion really doesn't start until the 1520's and onwards. Just keep the French in good realtions and trade maps with them once you do find stuff from England.

My last piece of advice is, watch out for Spain. In my game, after my BB went up for England and Ireland, my relations were poor. And since I had Martinique from England, they were pissed, and a war ensued that oddly enough brought me closer to the brink of destruction than any of the wars with England.

it's france in my game. after my alliance with them expired, i got offers from both spain and portugal to enter alliances. since spain is one of my major moneylending partners (the other, oddly enough, is france.), i accepted. of COURSE, spain declared war on france, and i jumped in just so i wouldn't take a BB hit. i wasn't planning on actually being involved, but the damn french ran a shipload of troops into upper england, and actually took one of my cities before i defeated them and took it back. i finally sued for peace, ceding 250 ducats. i was lucky that that's all they took. i'm still behind in land tech level, so a long war really would have hurt.

What tax settings are you folks using? I am new to the game and have only played one GC to about 1620 (England). I got bored so I downloaded ICG and am gonna play one as Scotland at the very low tax settings.

I will post on it if I last long enough to go Baptist. :D

Other house rule is I am not going to attack anyone unless I have a CB against them, other than natives of course.

frodo,

i generally use normal aggressives and normal difficulty. that's plenty challenging for me.

if you play as scotland, don't hesitate to attack england whenever her stability drops, as it will when she changes religion to protestant. also, consider staying catholic as scotland. most of the highland provinces are catholic, so u won't have any revolt risk. and u can always go CR catholic or protestant later if u need colonists.

consider an alliance with france or spain, to make the english think twice about attacking you.
