Playing as England in 1444. Scorched Earth my territories in France. Then surrendered them. Hoping to end the war, but still hurt France. However it seems like the Scorched Earth disappeared when I ended the war. Also, I am still waiting to see some visuals for Scorched Earth.

most province modifiers disappear upon ownership change. not that it would have made a difference, a few months of less income in the conquered provinces is hardly hurting them.

Well that's either a bug or a stupid design decision. It's not "a few months". It's 5 years of -50% tax, -0.33 goods produced, -50% supply, and +0.1 autonomy per month.

There are already enough negative modifiers applied when you receive a province, and I don't think there needs to be any more. The idea of scorched earth is that you are making a trade off of hurting yourself (the -tax etc) but also harming your enemies should they lay siege to the province, so when thought of like this it makes no sense for the province to keep the modifiers should you lose ownership of it. I would agree that scorched earth needs a visual effect and should probably be reworked, as it hasn't been very relevant since it was nerfed a couple of patches ago.

It doesn't make sense that having burnt all your farmland it would magically re-appear just becuase the ownership changed.

oh, but it makes perfect sense - your troops didn't manage to really scorch much earth because you gave up the territory to the french, they just told you they already finished because they wanted to finally go home.

please stop arguing realism against a gameplay mechanic that makes sense the way it is (referring to the provine modifier removal, not scorched earth as a whole).

Actually when you come to think about he's right.

The purpose of scorched earth is a slash and burn tactic. It's to hinder the enemy when they get there. Take Napoleans invasion of Russia for an example. The French army was moving into Moscow. So most of the Russias just packed away and took everything they could. This severely reduced Frances numbers. And when going back they we're ambushed. At least I think that's true.

In this case, English troops scorch earth to hinder France. England peaces out with Scorched earth, gives France the scorched earth lands. Theoretically this should work. When they get those lands they'll know that there is nothing left.

So yeah I would say OP is right.
