Researcher traits also give an increase in Research Speed depending on the type of research.
Jie Tan has a +5% increased research speed trait from the start, while all three of them appear to have obtained a +5% research speed bonus(by trait or some other bonus) by level 3.

You are correct, the boost was from the Administrative AI tech. I am completely wrong.
