Scenario Editor sets bogus difficulty level ?

Options CTD

I used the scenario editor before playing but dont think I made any "problem" changes. Im now at 1556, and when I click on the saved game, everything looks ok until I click "Options" at which point I get a CTD. If I go ahead & load the game without clicking "Options", it runs for a couple minutes and then CTD.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, repatched (1.05), started a new game & saved it. When starting/reloading the new game I can choose "Options" with no problems, and get no CTD then or later. But when I try the old game, same thing.

Any suggestions? If its something in the saved file has to do with options menu, please tell me where and I'll fix it myself. Any help would be much appreciated as Id rather not start fresh and lose everything Ive done.

I too wouldn't have thought anything you can do in the editor would affect the Options button.

Already solved it. Thanks for offering to help though!

Here's what I noticed: in the save file (not the eugs), at the top, where it lists the game settings (the options you set at start of campaign), it said "difficulty: -15983928" or some such number. I looked at other save files and saw that that line should actually be a switch like the other lines thereabouts: 0, 1, 2, etc. So Normal difficulty would be 2. I changed it. Now it works. So I have no idea how that happened, but it was ONLY in games that I had used the editor to create. And once I changed it to a valid number, I am now able to access the options menu again, and the game loads fine. Wierd, huh?

Even though it works now, it would still help to know how/why that happened so I can use the editor without making whatever mistake I made to cause it...

It sounds to me like a bug in the scenario editor where the difficulty variable isn't being initialized and thus if you don't set it right it can get pointed to random data.

Makes sense Bruce, and thanks. Just out of curiousity, has anyone else noticed this or did I somehow cause it?
