After completing scenario 1 I started working on #2. After my first attempt (which failed) it seems the difficulty actually ramped up quite a bit from scenario 1 (if you can imagine that).

For example, one of the mission was to connect the villa all the way at the northwest edge of the map to the college in the city centre. Am I correct in assuming that the mission objective is to connect them using only one line? not multiple lines with transfers? If it has to be done using one line this objective seems quite difficult.

Then again, this was only my first attempt at Amsterdam, it did take me many tries to finish scenario 1.

Will post more once I give it more try.

You know... you can just fulfill the objectives of the missions and then delete the line. Put bus stop in the village and another in the college. Make a line from a to b and add a bus. Once mission is completed, delete the line.

And generally about missions; if it says build a line between a and b, then you need a single line that stops at those two stations. If the mission says build a line to a, then you just have to have that area covered with your stops.

yeah I know I can just put down a line to complete the objective then delete it, but it just feels like gaming the system and not very satisfying. I will give it more tries before resorting to that.

After trying some more, I have to say the random objectives doesn't make for good gameplay. Most of the time the suggested lines are impractical/infeasible.

I also found out that you can basically build a few lines in the very beginning of the scenario, then hit fastward till the end and complete the scenario, even if you are hugely in debt. Not very satisfying gameplay. I will set for myself the goal of completing the scenario with positive cash flow and as for some of the missions, I might just have to do the "build and delete" trick.

I found Amsterdam much more easy than Berlin. In both case i won without the help of a metro line. I'm one of those customers happy with traffics because this is the only things that make CIM hard and rewarding. In Vienna, 3rd mission of campaign, i builted my very first Metro and have no traffic at all, except in a road full of bus and tram stop (i have to redesi this part of my network).

Falc, you won when complete the mission where you have to renew the float. Every chapters have main missions end side missions, only the first make you won the scenario.

How did you go about completing the scenario two without metro? I've given it many tries without sucess.
I also completed scenario one without using metro.

Begin from airport and then try to conduct the passenger trough the first big canal, there you can build a very efficent ferry network. Small buses lines can cover the first ring of house. Tonight i can post some screen of my network.

I'm the same as Jabakunsa. I found Amsterdam easier than Berlin, but I also didn't use the Metro in either scenario.

I didn't really build many lines, except for a good network of water busses and a few bus and tram lines outside the city to connect villages and the airport to the canals. My coverage was pretty bad, but I was still making a good profit. Maybe I will post a screenie too and we can compare :)

Here I come!

Just for you, here some screenshots of my campaign in Amsterdam, no Metro and no loan.

I start from there...

Put some ferry lines to connect the central part of the city

Some buses connect this place

Things start to get complicated but everything keep works

A single bus on this living quarter and you have a lot of money, but you need ferry

Traffic is not so bad so i finally put some trams in the center

Nice screenshots. It looks like your water taxis were more successful than mine.
I like that you posted to show people that you can win these maps without going with metro. There are people that claim the only possible way to win is to go deep into debt and purchase a metro at the beginning. Like I said before... that is "easy mode" playing. Here you are showing people that it is possible to successfully run profitable bus and tramlines downtown.
But honestly, on Amsterdam, I'm thinking you could do very well even if you avoided the downtown.

I saw your water taxi and bus route at the very North of the map. I did exactly the same. I wonder if almost everyone ends up doing that.. especially with the objective that encourages you to build up there. It is a good money maker.

Anyway, glad to see this... for those people that are having difficulty and saying the game is "unplayable". And then figure out they can win by using metros... but then turn around the next day and for some reason say they don't like using metros because it feels like cheating. Well, as you have demonstrated, it is quite possible to do it. Kudos brother.

I didn't save my complete Amstrdam map, so I can't show it to compare, but it was not as complete as Jabakunsa's anyway. My waterbus network was almost identical to his. The main difference is that I had only one little tram line in the central island - I figured it's so small that people can walk, and most of it is covered by the water busses anyway. I also had a few more bus lines outside the city to bring in people from the villages.

The airport tram line and extension to the north-western point is crucial. I think the missions force you do do it anyway. I would say that there's definitely no need for a metro in this scenario.

So after having not played a while, I came back to this scenario and I finally completed with a profit. I'm not sure if it's the result of the number of patches that have been applied since I last played. I was able to complete the scenario without metro and without loans.

I built some tram and bus lines downtown early and had them make some profit so I'm thinking the patches really eased on the traffic. (this is on normal difficulty setting) I'll have some screens later.

I only played Amsterdam once so far (campaign mission 2) and I didn't build a bus line there but three boat stops, instead. Didn't work so well, though.
