I liked forming Scandinavia in HOI2, it made them powerful enough to decently guard the Norwegian Coast, and I only needed to conquer Sweden in addition to the normal Denmark/Norway, sometimes Finland too.

There's a reason why it's always the Swedes, never the Danes or Norwegians, that propose a Nordic Union.
Isit only Swedes proposing this? Never Finns or Icelandics?

Why is that so do you think?

It was more than possible if we all had been involved in the war, the effort of rebuildning our countries in the event that the Germans bombed our lands.
It was more and more unlikely after Sweden backstabbed Denmark and Norway by both being neutral and enabling the German war machine to advance. Sweden let trains go freely carrying soldiers and military equipment to the battle of Narvik during the invasion of Norway. The Swedish government claimed they were neutral, but that's not true when you look at the evidence.
The Norwegian prime minister at the time even went so far as to say "If YOU were able to have a conversation with Pehr Albin Hansson (Prime minister of Sweden) then you should give him my greetings and say that there are two things i desire to experience, which are that the Germans are thrown out of Norway and that i get to live so long as to have the opportunity to yell and make a fool of him (Hansson) and his whole government" He also said "..there are nothing, nothing, nothing that I hate with such a burning flame and so wildly as Sweden - and this is his (Hansson's) fault"

If there even was an opportunity for a Scandinavian Union, Sweden had to come in defence of Denmark and Norway instead of enabling nazi expansion.

And as expected the thread degenerates into the ususal blame game. Just beat it!

I really enjoyed playing as Scandinavia in HOI I and II. I used mods that someone on these forums had posted, sometimes I also added a little to them myself. Great fun for a developer :D

I'm not sure that a Scandinavian event will be a good idea in HOI IV but I would love a mod if someone would take the time to make one. Perhaps I might give it a try as well. The capital can be in Bergen or Helsinki or Reykjavik for that matter, that's not important. What's important is the combined power of such a union. A power that could make a difference in a nice little game of fantasy :D

When I was young, I had a babysitter that was born here in Canada, but her parents were Norwegian. I remember her singing the phrase- "1000 Swedes ran through the weeds, chased by 1 Norwegian!" I'm not sure if that is a saying Norwegians have or not, but it stuck with me. I suppose there is some rivalry between the two nations. I'm not sure any neighbors get along 100% in all their history, but I came to find out that I am part Swedish myself, so I am somewhat interesting in Scandinavian history and politics.

When I play HOI, I always try to make the Scandinavian Union if I am able to. They are great little allies for Germany.

Question. Is Finland not part of the union in previous HOI games? Can it be, or is that just optional?

Because Sweden has the largest population, which means that the Swedes would inevitably have the biggest say in such an union.
Yea, you are right of course and the evil scheme of it all is that the Danish population would in such a union have to pay twice as much tax as the rest.... Lol

Fyi, Sweden atm is run by a minority ...

Yeah, let's get back on topic -

I think some formable countries should be in the game, most importantly Austria-Hungary, but I just don't see how an united Scandinavia is possibly post-1864.

But you can see how a failed country. Made up by two people that hate each other can be a tag? And which one of the two Hitler very much wanted in his own Grossdeutschland.

I kinda need to defend my point now, so sorry for derailing. You told me to get my facts straight and still while I provided a source, you didn't. I just based my post on a book (called "Blodsporet") that got published and the article summerizing it up. My point was that even if it was a slim chance of it happening if Sweden came to defence of Denmark and Norway, it certainly wasn't when Sweden proclaimed neutrality (and let the germans access their railways transferring miltiary equipment).

Back on track...hopefully. I would very much like to have this as a national focus or a tag switch or even by conquest. Though it is highly unprobable to have happened in real life. In 1936 it was only 31 years since Norway got it's Independence. For the nationalistic Norwegians, it would be almost impossible to convince them back under another crown. But this is a game, and fun stuff like this should be possible.

my idea for the union was not a giving up of country, crown and goverment. more lika united goverment under a extreme situation as when the all of the countries are under attack...after the war they would all be difffrent countries again...

Well we have had the Nordic counsel since 1952, no need for passport travelling within the nordic countries(Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sverige and Greenland, Faroe Islands and Åland.)
These open borders has worked very well up until the EU/Schengen cooperation, today we have the joint military cooperation with Finland/Sweden and Denmark/Norway in NATO that will probably develop further.

So why not a new "focus" for this...

But now you're making the assumption that Mr Hansson is elected Prime Minister in September of 1936. There is plenty of time (9 months) to make sure that another politician takes his place.

Edit: Whomever disagreed with the fact that Mr Hansson could've lost the election does not seem to realize how (relatively) close the election was.

On one side was:
Pehr Albin Hansson, Social Democrats (Social Democratic): 45.9%
Nils Flyg, Socialists (Socialist): 4.4%

On the other side was:
Gösta Bagge, Electoral League (Moderate-Conservative): 17.6%
Axel Pehrsson-Bramstorp, Farmers' League (Liberal): 14.4%
Gustaf Andersson, People's Party (Liberal): 12.9%

If we sum it up, Pehr Albin Hansson only won 50.3 to 44.8, or by 5.5% units. We have seen way bigger drops in popularity than that before over the course of 9 months.

But I thought you wanted to be independant <.> Oh well. . . Atleast the germans like money.

On topic, we could have it so that Sweden forms a union with Finland if they lose the war and Denmark aswell as norway to form scandinavia to keep Germany away, sell them iron and help with barabossa by getting back former Swedish lands like estonia and such. I think I already proposed some similar idea in a previous thread but having a union would make stuff easier, or atleast some faction. Since we would only be reclaiming former lands, it wouldn't really be facist, so. . .
