Northern Europe is often brought up as a region that could need a do-over. It used to be that when it was brought up that people would counter that southeast asia, subsaharan africa, the new world and korea needed an upgrade more badly, which I very much agree with. It's nice that those regions got new formables, missions, flavor events, mechanics etc.
But now that those dire regions got a makeover, I'd say it's fair to have a minor scandi-baltic update, and I was wondering what some of the more popular demands are. Some ideas I had:
- expansion of finnish cores to include rovaniemi, kajanaland and enare
- "development of helsinki" mission available for sweden, finland and united scandinavia which adds a level 1 centre of trade to nyland and renames it to helsinki if it's been brought up to 15 dev and used up all building slots. Historically it wasn't really developed until right after the game's timeline ends but it'd be some neat flavor to make it more prominent before that.
- "nordification" of karelian culture if all karelian provinces are owned by a nordic country (could work through a mission or event)
- a shared colonization mission tree for the nordic countries, doesn't have to be too expansive or powerful. Something like automatically discovering greenland and getting temp colonial range + settler growth when you get your first colonist, then when you've colonized greenland you get a bigger settler growth bonus (still temporary) but only in the canadian region. Then you get a mission for owning at least 15-20% of the fur trade, giving mercantilism and a temp modifier of trade steering, stuff like that.
- "unite scandinavia" mission available to all nordic countries when owning at least X amount of nordic provinces + some necessary prominent ones like sjaelland, lund, stockholm, akershus. Would give temporary -0.05 monthly autonomy change and -2 national unrest
- unique ideas for a united scandinavia that are strong and interesting but not too busted, something like +15% infantry CA (so it's still below sweden's), +10% shock damage, +15% manpower and sailors, +10% ship durability, +25% domestic trade power, +15% trade efficiency, +33% colonial range and may recruit explorers, +25% naval FL, -1 national unrest, 10% tax modifier. Waiting for someone to tell me this is too weak and for another to say it's too strong.
I have to admit, I can't think of anything good for the baltic specifically, but I'm sure others have good ideas. Go spitball a bit.
