By some miracle, the king of Muscovy died and gave me his throne. After winning a succession war with Austria, I ended up with PU over Muscovy. Year is 1535.

What would you do in my situation? I got Diplomatic/Expansion/Exploration Ideas. My army is quite weak. My force limits are low, my manpower if low. I Integrated Sweden and Norway, but their autonomy is so high that I barely get anything from them. I don't have the government that reduces the autonomy yet, and wars are not helping at reducing that autonomy.

My religion is Reformed.
My allies are France.
My enemies are Austria-Hungary and Poland-Lithuania (they want to take the teutonic order's lands from me)

If Muscovy will declare war of independence, without France help i will just die.

What should I do with the new PU over Muscovy?
Integrating them will end up making make me weaker, because the combined army will me smaller (because of autonomy). All these huge orthodox lands will destroy my religious unity, i will probably need Religious and Humanism ideas alone to keep all these territories.

I believe that their high opinion of me is not enough to keep from fighting a war of independence. I probably need a bigger army. but i got a pitiful 38 land force limits modifier. while they are in the 60s.

I wanted to play a peaceful game, colonizint territories, but i ended up dragged in all these european wars. I am not prussia, my army is real crap.

Good luck, buddy. I had double PUs with France and Austria (big bad Austria with Burgundy and Hungary) as Muscovy once. The only thing you can do in this case is constantly waging wars preferably closer to Muscovy's borders to keep them weaker. You have to avoid bad rulers (3 admin or less) and loans.
I converted most HRE OPMs to orthodox through religious wars because I needed to be in war all the time. These PUs ruined my game plan.

But being in war keeps the autonomy of my integrated scandinavian countries :( If I release Russia, will they be hostile towards me?
That's the problem. You also cannot have negative prestige. PU's with top powers are pain. It would be hard for you to integrate Russia (if possible at all) due to absence of same culture/same religions bonuses. I do not know about relations hit, never done that.
I do not think it is realistic to keep this PU because mine were difficult to but i had 1.5 larger army than France and 2x than Austria. Austria had vassalage attitude only during wars and France was always hostile. It would take 56 years to integrate Austria in 1.7. If you have Influence and statesman your progress would be 4 a month or slightly more than 4 base tax per year.

You know, you can manually reduce Province Autonomy by 25 in exchange for 10 unrest for some time. With all your bonuses combined... your scandinavian territories should still remain at 0 unrest.

Just make sure to keep them at +200 relations? Had France in a PU in my Italy game and they never once declared independence.
They will get events ("bad monarch") if Admin skill is less than 4. Relations malus would be great. He already should have "relative power to the liege" modifier and it should be quite significant. BTW -10 malus for different religion or if he borders Muscovy (-20 for tolerated neigbouring heretics) so Italy-France case is hardly applicable here.

So what do I do? Can I release Muscovy and have an alliance with them? I need them against Poland-Lithuania.. Upon becoming a PU partner, their attitude changed from Friendly to Outraged. Can i get back to friendly?

It's funny that i didn't force this PU, it's just that I was their only ally with RM and got automatically a succession war on russian king's heirless death.

I also got the competing great power -25 malus with most of the countries now.. :(

Offtopic: today i experienced my first interregnum event, my heir got an interesting education event where i could choose to improve one of his stats. I liked if a lot :)

Weird, the opposite thing happened to me: as Muscovy, somehow a member of the Rurikovichi took the throne of Norway which took almost all of Scandinavia and after a couple of years I was informed that I'm now leading a personal union. I didn't even do anything, except for accepting their royal marriage just to be friends against Sweden.
