This is a simple mod that changes the MP system in a subtle, but noticeable way. It is made in response to the complaints about monarch points feeling weird, in that a trade and exploration nation like Portugal ends up behind on Diplomacy tech if you want any diplomacy ideas at all. It was also inspired by someone suggesting that government type should interact with the MP system.

So, what does it do?

  • It changes base MP from 3 to 2
  • It adds on average 0.167 MP per 10 provinces per month
  • It adds an average of 0.167 MP per month for idea 1, 3, 5 and 7 for all idea groups, so for example quantity idea 3 gives you 0,33 military points per month. If you then have quantity 3, aristocracy 3 and quality 3, then you would get 1 military point per month.
  • It adds MP based on government, so for instance feudal monarchies get 0.167 military points per month while noble republics get 0,167 diplomacy and adminstrative points while losing 0.167 military points each month. Another good example is the horde government, which gives 0.667 military points per month while draining 0,167 diplomacy and adminstrative points per month. Generally, higher tech and special governments are better than lower tech / standard governments

Government effects per month on average:

Note that there is (afaik) no official mod support yet, so you are going to have to simply put the event and common directory in the base EU4 directory. Other than that, it should work just fine on release, provided that you don't play Ming, as that is the dummy country for the events.

Feedback appreciated!

How does this help with your tech system complaint?

Say you play portugal, and you invest some of your diplomacy points into exploration and expansion ideas, because you want to colonize. Then you are going to get more diplomacy points from then on, allowing you to either invest more into your ideas or catch up on tech.

The numbers need to be tuned, but the mechanic is sound, at least in my opinion.

That kind defeat their purpose. Part of the reason they exist is to prevent snowballing. Bigger countries are supposed to be harder to run that small ones.

The MP growth from a larger country is minor compared to the monarch points from ideas and government type. A country with 20 provinces gets 0,33 each month of all types of MP, resulting in 4 more per year for all three types. As a larger country also has more expenditures than a minor country, I don't really see the issue.
