How do I naturally switch to from Saxon to German?

I started in 769 as Bruno Liudolfinger, chief of Brunswick. Now according to the wiki, for Saxon to flip to German, Karl has to take over Saxony, and then has to put down Wudikind's rebellion. So both of those events happened now so how does the culture change work?

Do I have to be Frankish ruling over Saxon land?

Do I have to be Christian or does it even matter?

Do I have to stay under Francia or be independent or?

Do I have to find some German province, switch to German, and then come back? The gamey way

Or combinations of the above? Some help would be very nice!

The event has a MTTH of 3600 months and is halved if the owner is German, and that's the only modifier. In other words, each province has 50% chance of flipping over 300 years, or 150 if ruled by a German.

If it's taking too long, you can nab at the feet of some your fellow vassals down south, grab a German province, move your capital to the german province, and then use the intrigue menu.
