Chapter II, Succession
Savoy 1405
Savoy Ship Patrols, discover that on the coast of Naples, several cities are burning. After months, the ships identify them as Sicillian troops.
When the ships return to King Amedeo VIII, he gathers his advisors and his son. The King presents them with his plan of action against Naples.Savoy has claimed the throne of Naples, as rightfully thiers, and intends to take it by force. Even though Naples has a stronger fleet than Savoy, then by cunning and by quickness, he believes that he may be able to smuggle enough troops into Naples.
Thier discussion lasts roughly 12 hours in a row, and finally, one the next day the King and his advisors have made a plan of action, that all fairly agree to. The King managed to get a Military Alliance with the Papal States, as well as Military Access. The Savoy troops will land in rome, and move down to Naples from there. 5.000 Troops will attack the already heavily damaged Naples Army. Reinforcements will come by as the Naples Fleet is not close by. Naples is allied with provence and Aquielia. Provence will be taken care of swiftly by Mercenaries, and the main Army will head for Rome.
Holland has honoured our Alliance, and will fight by our side.
The King also takes a loan of 54 ducats to be able to afford extra man power.
The troops move to eliminate province as quickly as possible.
Savoy, 1406
The Savoy troops make thier way through Rome, and down into the provinces of Naples, and lay it under siege.
While the battle rages on in southeren Italy, the troops in province have surrendered.
With the defeat of Savoy, the King sends the majority of his troops, to Italy to reinforce his armies.
Savoy 1407
Apulla and Calabria falls to the hands of Savoy. When news spread across Italy of this victory, the King receives a peace offer from Aquilia, and several from Naples. The offer of white peace with Aquilia is accepted, peace with Naples, is denied.
Savoy 1408
The Allies of Savoy, the Papal States, have entered a war with the Byzantine Empire. In a show of good faith toward the Pope and Christianity, he considers making a strike for the Byzantines. When the ships take a closer look of Greece, they discover that Naples have a province under their control.
King Amedeo gathers his advisors, and plans a new campagin. He feels that Italy has been won, but with a few more years, he might even own provinces in Greece. By landing on the Naples region of Janina, he plans to request military access from Venice, to move through Athens, and from Archea to move into Morea and take it. It is a risk he is willing to take, even though his men will be spread out.
The Sicillians seem to however be at the brink of defeat, as all of sicily is occupied by Naples.
It did not last long, before the Sicillian surrendered, and moved out of Naples. This was only good, for now King Amedeo could occupy the rest of Naples under his troops.
To the north, Savoy was well on its way to occupy the rest of Naples.
Savoy 1410
The occupation of Naples has gone perfectly. Even better, as there have been not a single revolt among the population. Perhaps they were waiting for a new King to lead them, indstead of that fat Napolean Swine.
In 1410 the Armies of Savoy were well on thier way to crush the rest of the resistance in the new Naples territories of Sicily.
Savoy 1411
The Italian Dream of Amedeo VIII di Savio seems to become not just a dream, but reality. It is as if he had god upon his side until now. How ever a most tragic fate befell his son Ludovico di Savoia. He fell very ill at the age of 27. It all began with a high fever in Summer. The Priests assured the family that it was nothing but a bad fever, and he would become healthy again. How ever his fever seemed to get worse, and it lasted long. Ludovico de Savoia, spent all his days laying in bed, nursed by his maids. The poor fellow laid in bed for months. During the months his memory faded. At first he forgot what people said and told him, next he began forgetting names of the different people in the court.
When victory was declared over Naples, in March 1411, Ludovico could not even remember his fathers name, nor who he was himself. Rumours about the poor fellow quickly escaped throughout the nation and into the ears of other Italian Kingdoms. Some were more concerned about the next heir, rather than Ludovico. Ludovico lays still in bed, having forgotten everything. He is known as Ludovico the Forgotten. With this tragic turn of events, the King decided to delay the campagin on Greece, or mabye even abort it.
How ever, a new heir must be pointed. As Ludovico was the Kings only son, a new heir must be found somewhere else. The new heir has officially been appointed as the newly born child, Giana d'Arago'.
1411 March 11th. Savoy declared victory over Naples.
