Savegames needed.

Hmmm... 3 Isnt much indeed. But well, I didnt send any as found out soon that my saves were most before 1870 (about 98%) and the few after 1870 were or VIP saves or pre-1.03c saves.

EDIT: hmmm... I just realised that I still have all saves from my Zulu campaign somewhere.... That may be exactly what he wanted Well its too late anyway.

Send that later games (Non vip) any way. The save i sent was from 1895 or some such but it was a great example of the wooden boat bug and RR.

For myself, I haven't run a vanilla savegame in well over a year, so the only savegames I have are VIP ones. As a result, I am having to reinstall Victoria so that I am sure to be running a pure vanilla game (mod-dir would be so helpful at times like this!) so I have had to go through all my files to extract all the current projects I am working on for VIP 0.5 (missing something and then losing it once I reload Victoria would, to put it mildly, suck. Especially if it is something that has been worked on for a couple months). Combine that with having only one computer that I use for work and recreation, and it will likely be this afternoon before I can even start running a Victoria scenario, provided my work load allows it. So maybe tomorrow I will have something I can zip over to Johan, if I leave the game running overnight and nothing CTDs while it is running.

Another point to consider is that Johan is looking for specific things in game files, and to newer players what Johan is looking for may not be so easy to spot in savegames, especially if the only savegames you have are, say, minor countries that don't develop railways or have large navies where the question of building steam would be an issue.

In the end, Johan has said that the files that he has received are exactly the data that he needed to fix the problems he was looking for. Sometimes having a mass of data that may not contain the target information makes anaylsis more difficult than having a few clear examples of the situation you are looking for. This is very well likely a case where flooding Johan with random savegames that might contain the problem would be less helpful that a few savegames that illustrate the problem clearly.

I am dissapointed in the lack of activity in this thread. I find it amusing that people have a mob mentality inregards to signing the petition for the 1.4 patch pronto but yet dont bother to even respond to a thread made by Johan asking for help, obviously for the future patch.

I hope all of a sudden everyone isnt looking the other way and whisteling. It would give Johan a very negative impression of the Vicky community.

Hopefully more people sent save games then responded to this thread.

I would send it in still just put an explanation to whether the afore mentionned bugs are present or not. This gives him the choice to disregard or not

Well, hmm maybe the reason why not so many people have sent any save games is because they can't find any that fits the bills - which are:

a) I need a 1870's save game of the GC where the AI is not upgrading railroads quickly (and have tech for it), and will be doing stupid factory building.

B) A save game where UK have the tech for more advanced ships but are still keeping wooden ships around...

I'm just a casual Vic-gamer so that may explain why I haven't even noticed the first problem (a)

Regarding b - I have never even played UK. Quite funny when I think about it since this was UK's golden era.

I would expect that if you have a savegame where the mentioned problems aren't happening it would be easier to just not send them in at all.

heh I installed vanilla Vicky (1.03c) and started a game as Belgium. My goal was to produce save games for Johan, but after a few years the game crashed. But I'm not giving up this easily! 1.04 is definitely needed

I phoned my wife and had her mail me the old savegames on my home computer. Redirected them to Johan.

I also wonder how many people are working on the other Paradox games. For myself, there's the latest EU2 beta to play, HOI2 1.2, and of course Vicky (those damn Russians!). Once you add in food, sleep, and the family I may have to quit my job just to free up time

Sent Johan a second save game

This one had the following issues:

1) Factory building to the extreme
2) UK had frigates in 1920 with maxed naval tech
3) RR weren't bad

This is exactly the kind of bickering that I said we don't want in this thread. Re-starting an argument that had already been resolved and insulting other forum members is outside the bounds of the forum rules. This is displaying the Victoria community in a very bad light. Any further posts of this nature will result in official warning of the offender and possibly greater immediate consequences.

Trust me that Johan knows about that bug. I think it is in about 100 differant places in the Wishlist for 1.04 thread and a number of standalone threads were created on it along with an official bug in the bugs forum.

I think I have a good one. 1877, and the only AI countries I've seen building any rail in 20 years are Spain and Germany. France and the UK appear to have the tech to build more, but are doing nothing. I have to check their industrial setup.

Meanwhile, the UK has built its first CA, 11 CL, 36 IC, but the wooden walls are still there.

Would those situations described fit what is expected of the needed saves? Maybe I should give it some more time to see what happens to the Royal Navy?

Update:

I let it play to 1879 and then loaded as a bunch of nations to see what was going on. Quite a lot of silly industrialization by the AI, building too many factories that need steel and lumber, and not having any for railroading. No country seemed to be sitting on resources and cash to build railroads and not doing so.

As for the Royal Navy, they're still keeping sailing ships, but with a fleet of 9 CA, 12 CL, 36 IC and the 55 MW and 70 FR they might be quite right in doing it. I probably would keep those ships too, at least until I got a decent fleet of more advanced battle-line ships.

So, maybe this game isn't exactly what Johan wants... Now I don't know whether or not to send it in.
