Save scumming is a problem in all modern games and Paradox games should have a similar system to XCOM Ironman. Totally optional, but should exist.

Absolutely. The ironman mode in xcom makes the game so much more compelling.

Not savescumming can lead to the funnest games. I was playing a count in Alan count in Greece. My duke imprisoned me and blinded me.
I scemed and just as i got my revenge by usurping my duke, the fatimids finished their invasion on greece and i lost the duchy and was left with one county in Anatolia.
Being stuck between the fatimits to the west and south and the seljuks to the east, i had no other choice to then to flee to my religious brothers in Russia.
I took over the duchy in anatolia and through carefull marriage and plotting my grandson will become king of Russia and Rutherania.

Did it constantly when first learning the game, but, now only if there's some strange bugaboo. Generally I find playing what your dealt as part of the challenge. I've survived 16-year minorities, etc.

But, was playing Byzantium and my 23+diplomacy son happened to be educated by the Chancellor, who was German, and caused my son to become German without my knowing it. Since I didn't realize what had happened, soon after inheriting the throne all hell broke loose and the empire completely fell apart.

That's just stupid IMO, and so it took me a couple of re-loads to finally get things back on track but eventually my son succeed me as a Greek.

Sometimes more work to get the game back on track than it's worth (generally the case).

On the other hand, if my army is defeated on the field I'll abandon the game rather than suffer through the eventual conquest to follow. I'm playing the game as an enjoyable pastime, there's never any reason to fight on to the bitter end unless you have an ace under your sleeve.
