Well the save must contain all info about the game, so as the game progresses and acumulates more game data, the size of the save file will ofcourse expand to contain that info, otherwise when you loaded the game the data would be all wrong.

Yes it would influence game speed as well, depending on your system.
The longer you play the game the more memory is required and the more calculations must be made.

Ask in the Scenario/Editing forum they may know if some info can be deleted, but I doubt you can.
