Save Game Doesn't Work After Patch

I had a game with the version prior to 1.111 (1.01 I think?). When I try to play that save, all provinces are blacked out and state "no record holder" and I am unable to play.

1.01 and 1.111 are several patches apart and would not really be expected to be compatible. If you had 1.11 before, then that's a different mater - but there's still not a lot to be done about it. Have you tried the save game rescue utility in the sticky thread above?

The save repair did nothing. A quick search on google reveals a lot of people having the same issue, that's why I posted my query in the hopes that someone has fixed this with their own games and could provide support.

You might find the folks in the User Mods forum of some help, they are more experienced in analysing save game file issues.
