Save Game CTD--Tries to load a file instead?

Greetings,

I just picked up a copy of Arsenal of Democracy and Iron Cross both, from GamersGate. AoD is version 1.08, IC version is 1.03 (also tried with 1.03 "beta")

When I choose to save the game, it tells me "cannot locate file", the file being whatever I try to save the game as. Apparently, the "save" feature has no idea what it is supposed to be. If I ignore it I may carry on, but either the ignore or retry options cause a CTD.

Please, please help me. It is cruel that I cannot enjoy this gorgeous map and the amazing enhancements and additions it comes with.

Addendum: Autosave runs afoul of the same problem. This renders the game entirely unplayable. Please help.

Double Addendum: When installed over Armageddon, this problem does not occur, for what it's worth. At least I can enjoy Iron Cross, though I will be sad if AoD can't be reconciled with it.

Alas, the save files for the Armageddon + Iron Cross installation don't load, and cause a CTD, saying there are errors in the file.

Perhaps you need a clean install...
Or the save game file is not compatible with the latest patch.
Sorry I am not sure what the problem is, Quintelosky knows better.

Okay, the Iron Cross install over Armageddon DOES work. My problem was the shortcut used to open the .exe file: when I launch the game from the Iron Cross Setup, like I did for the games that I saved, they are accessible. When I use the desktop shortcut, It still launches with Armageddon as the base game, but cannot seem to comprehend the save files. So, the IC over Armageddon install works fine.

I'd still love to get the IC over AoD working, though, if only for the improvements to espianoge. I'll try to re-install it later. I've seen all kinds of strange results out of Paradox installations gone wrong. That said, I have also caused a lot of those strange results.
