Save game crashes, where is the fix? (Rant-ish)

Hi,

so I'm wondering why there is no fix for this problem yet. This has been an issue for weeks now and i still can't play by myself or with friends because the game crashes when it saves, does not matter if it's auto-save or if it's manual, it still crashes.

My friend goes out of sync, i try to save.. crash.
I randomly crash, friend tries to save, crash.
Manage to save? well 50/50 the save is corrupted and will generate you a gray (empty) map.

It does not matter if we run no DLC's or all of them. It does not matter if we run mods or not. The game in this state is not even remotely playable, because you will inevitably crash and saves are completely unreliable. Re-installing did not fix a thing, so we're guessing we're not alone in this. I've seen multiple threads where people report these save issues and I see staff asking for save files.. we can't give you save files because we cannot save!

I'm frustrated and honestly quite pissed that this issue is not the main priority right now, as a new DLC is doubtful to fix it.. most likely it would make things worse.

Actually it sounds like you are having a different problem than the autosave crash. With that bug, the game appears to save OK but when you load from the save it crashes then. If you can't even save you have a different problem, and a fix for the main issue will probably not help you anyway.

Are you only getting this in MP? And both you and your friend get it equally?

We have the auto-save problem as well, as my friend and me cannot load most of the saves without crashing. It seems the longer in you get, the worse all of this gets. The furthest we got was when I managed to save but the save ended up completely corrupt. It did not crash the game, but the map was completely blank. Could not select anything. That was maybe 20 years into the game, we've never gotten further than that.

Yes, we both get this problem. He mostly gets out of sync messages and i crash when i attempt to save. But i occasionally crash myself and he crashes when he attempts to save.

I don't understand. You say in your OP the game crashes during the save process, so you have no bad save games to upload to the request thread. But now you seem to be saying you can save and have some bad games? What, sometimes? And again, is this only in MP? A detailed description of exactly what is and is not happening to you, in what circumstances, would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

But yes, the corrupt save issue is precisely the problem that's being worked on. I do not experience it at all myself, but I'm told that if you disable autosave and do manual saves frequently that alleviates the problem; if nothing else you lose less progress.

Autosaving is disabled in our games, because it makes the game crash eventually, much faster than when you do it manually.

Manual saving also crashes the game, but sometimes it works. However when it works there seems to be about a 50/50 chance the save game it creates is corrupted, aka. completely blank map when loaded. Which means you cannot select any character, because there are none.

I've already told you two examples of when manual saving crashes the game, when i get a random crash and my friend tries to save the MP game, he crashes. Second example is my friend getting a out-of-sync message, i try to save our game, i crash. By this I mean this happens EVERY time these circumstances appear, which is often.

I think this is somewhat related to corrupted saves, because it's all connected to saves. I hope i made this clear now, because i dont know how else i could describe it.

Try uploading one of the corrupt saves. Then there is something for the devs to look at, to see what is corrupting.

Will do, did not think they'd give them much since it seems to just wipe everything out. I mean we couldn't even select characters or factions to play, it was like they didn't even exist haha.

I'm not sure if this is the save bug or if its rather related to mp crashing.
