Save Files Gone

So, this is more than a tad frustrating.

So, I'm looking at some of the CKII mods on the steamwork shop. Try and watch one of the embedded youtube vids for it. Get some kind of OpenGL or something error and steam promply crashes. I reopen stream, nothing seems wrong, so I press on.

I then open up CKII and go to load up my saves and find ALL my saves from the past 24 hours are GONE.

And I mean completely vanished. They are not even in the saves game folder any more.

Now, I will note that the loader also crashed a few minutes earlier, but opened fine when I tried again moments after. I didn't actually start the game so I can't say whether of not the saves had disappeared by that point and if the steam crash was unrelated.

I have all the DLC save for Sunset Invasion and the various song packs. Also, I was actually using the Bloody Peasents, Coat of Arms Editor Expansion, and the Ruler Designer Unlocked active (although I had yet to actually make any rulers or modify any coat of arms yet) as well as had CK2Plus and Celtic Empire installed but not active in any of my saves. Although I did make use of Celtic Empire briefly, but turned it off with no incidents (saves worked fine and I made and loaded several afterward).

The game never deletes saves, so I'm pretty sure they are there somewhere. The file system locations are documented in the sticky "file locations" thread above, FYI.

Are they local or cloud? Modded or not?

Checked the C:\Users\<USER NAME REDACTED>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\save games: All saves post 6:55pm EST December 16, 2014 were gone
Checked C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<USER ID REDACTED>: folder 203770 did not exist. Did a search, none of the files more recent than September. I never selected "cloud" when making a save so this may be normal.
Mods ACTUALLY USED IN THE SAVES: Bloody Peasents!, Coat of Arms Editor Expansion, and the Ruler Designer Unlocked!. All from the steam workshop.

I also never manual changed the save game directory, nor is there a userdir.txt in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii folder.
And yes, all my saves where local, just to be clear. Had the internet cut out enough times not to rely on it. (Internet has not cut out since the purchase of CK2)

And the game is up to date (v2.3) and I got the game the day of the patch/DLC launch.

Ok... I'm not normally one to double post, but for this I'm making an exception.

I... I literally have NO idea WHY or HOW this happened, but all the lost files where tucked away in C:\Users\<USER NAME REDACTED>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\CoA Editor Expansion\save games.

So, problem solved. Now I just need to figure out why that even happened.

Many mods use their own save game folders - I guess that is one of them, if you used that mod on those games.
