Save file corrupted

After the hotfix came out today I thought I'd start a new game as Malaysia. Had a good time, played for an hour or so before leaving to go do stuff for a while. Closed the game and when I came back a couple of hours later the save doesn't work. Save file is completely corrupted showing a blank world (The backup is the same, it shows I'm playing malaysia but on clicking on it it shows no countries and won't let me select play.)

I'm not too fussed as I was only 20 years into this campaign but I don't really want to commit to any games atm if I risk having my save destroyed like this.


EDIT: Started another game as Malaysia because I want to play in the new update and also to check to see if this save corruption is common. Exact same thing happened again. Seems the game is genuinely unplayable (unless you do it all in one sitting) atm.

Same problem here. Stared two games one yesterday, another today after hotfix, both get corrupted.

Same for me... My Safe from yeterday is corrupted and todays save as well.

Same thing for me.

I'd started playing as Majapahit before the latest patch, and was able to load and continue playing once the patch was out. Then the next time I tried to load, the file was corrupted and showed a blank map set at the first of the month, March 1470. I hadn't properly saved it that last time (been playing other Paradox titles where I could safely just close my Macbook and come back to it, I'd forgotten that with EU4 it usually just crashes if I close), but if everyone's having this problem then that must not be what went wrong to corrupt the file.

Just wanted to pop in and say this happened to me as well. It doesn't seem to occur constantly because I'd exited and loaded the save multiple times before.

Same thing happened to me! Literally broken! All save files apart from my current campaign were also broken!

Is there some kind of workaround? I had a cool Ajam run and wanted to flip to Zoro. Now everything is gone.

Same here, played quite a few hours last two days but today when loading the saves to do the last steps of "The Levant Turnabout" achievement after wiping out the ottomans, I came back to this.... Same with backup file, which only shows 223kb of data...

Judging from the size of the corrupted save files its not possible. They weight only ~200 KB, when normal save file is about 5 MB

Happened to me as well, as Cebu, twice. What is going on?? I'm happy to post both the corrupted save and an earlier save if it will help troubleshoot the issue.

The corrupted saves are probably caused by wrong data about the concentrate development cooldown which is written to the save. But if you don't mind losing ironman, you can recover your saves as long as you still have a version which was not loaded with the continue button on the main menu(doing that reduces such a save to 200kb and almost all data is lost).

I downloaded Pdx-unlimiter after the first corruption and started to make backups every few years. It just happened again right after I ended a war with Malacca. I chose to pillage their capitol. I wonder if that could be causing trouble as well? I did not concentrate development between my save intervals (though I have done it this campaign).

I think pillaging a capital causes the same cooldown for the area. And in my tests it writes wrong information to the save as well. But I don't know under which circumstances the information is so wrong that it breaks the save. This might be random or triggered by something else.

Same here. I backed up saves and was able to continue a game 20 years before the corrupt file. In between I integrated a vassal which has used the concentrate button I think.
Does AI Interaction inflict the same or is it just a player-bug?

Great, even if you dodge the 1504 CTD you still have to face this issue. *sigh* Orthodox Easter is only on Sunday, Paradox... You still have time to fix.

So you probably still have chance to salvage your game.

Btw, in my second game i didnt use Pillaging of Capital or Concetration of Dev, only Razed the provinces as a horde. Game still messed up my save file. It must be connected with changes in provinces developoment, or cooldowns of such actions.

It doesn't have to be you who does that. I'm pretty sure that the AI pillages capitals as well.

Same happened to me, had been working and then all of a sudden after returning to the game the save and back-up were corrupted. I don't mind the other issues with this release but this issue is completely unacceptable
