Save compatibility

If the game updates witch the new patch tomorrow, and I later revert to current 1.23 patch, will my current save games remain playable? Or should I copy the save files out somewhere safe and copy them back only after the revert?

I'm leaving for a few days tomorrow, but when I get back, I would really like to finish my current campaign before diving into the new patch and new DLC, and I'm trying to cover all my paranoid bases here.

Due to it adding numerous new provinces, as well as changing the existing ones, consider the upcoming update to not be save-compatible.
no need to remove your saves, the game won't delete them. Just use the Beta patch to downgrade and continue your game as normal.

I'm not sure I explained myself clearly. I already know that the saves will be incompatible with the newer patch, and know that I will have to revert via the steam beta system.

What I'm asking is whether the save files won't get irreversibly flagged as "incompatible" after the initial game update, or if I accidentally run the game with the new patch before I downgrade.

As long as you don't save and overwrite them, they will be fine.

As long as you don't save and overwrite them, they will be fine.

Just to further clarify the above, this includes not loading the save in another patch [to avoid auto-save].
