Yeah I noticed too that Saudi Arabia has relatively speaking no oil either... maybe its a game mechanics thing or maybe its because historically speaking Saudi Arabian oil production was not very high during the games timeline...

Saudi arabia has very little oil, think its about 8 or so. Persia has IIRC 50 ish oil, and theres a bit in Kuwait and some in Iraq as well. Also 75ish in the caucasus. But the real oil is in texas and venezuela.

The only major producers of oil are Persia, SU (Baku), Venezuela, and USA (who has about 500).

EDIT: And Romania. How could I forget? Might be others, but these are the only ones that I remember specifically having high oil provinces. I believe the UK has a large income as well, but whether it's from one or two provinces or from many 1 or 2 income provinces, I know not.

They should check out the provinces of a country before they DoW that country, that is usually what they call planning a strategy.

Please don't feel offended, the easiest way to get oil for your tanks is to trade. Keep in mind that should you capture a province with apparently high number of oil produce, you will only get a portion of it in any case.

At first you will notice that there will be NO oil production, but as time passes, the production will gradually increase, but not to the original output when the province was in the captured country's hands.

So to go after oil producing countries will not totally solve your problem. Therefor you will have to trade.

Saudi Arabia provides more of a strategical advantage, than an effective resource base. I always DoW them after I've finished with Ethiopia so I my troops could get easy XP and most importantly it'll open up a new front towards the rest of the middle-east... it's just a short trip to Kuwait from there y'know. ;)

Yes. Saudi has 8 oil which if you annex then you get 4. If you release Saudi as puppet then you'll get their excess oil. But not until they get 1000 units of it.

Isn't puppeting the way to go when conquering somewhere for it's resources though?

Only if the country in question has a large enough base resource to provide it's master country with any goods; eg.: I liberated Indochina as France in May, 1936 and they refused to transfer any resources as late as 1944, even tho I had direct land connection to it's capital. Actually, sometimes I feel puppeting is "made for TC reduction".

I can't see the logic behind the decent increase when "liberating" a country as a dictatorship. Is that because the population objects to you not expanding your borders and making them part of your glorious empire..?

OscarIsaiah,
I've always objected to the puppeting dissent. It was not in the game originally but was put in by Paradox because they felt it made the game too easy for the player who releases puppets. I remember a "Master of Puppets" AAR where the author specifically said he was going to remove the puppeting dissent because "my puppets want their freedom". IMO there's some logic just to pay for the costs of setting someone up, but IMO it should be a low flat rate (1-2%) regardless of government type. A better way to "pay" for puppets is to have them automatically de-puppet after a long time (but they'd still be allied).

It does make it alot more balanced and gives Democracies quite a game-balancing skill that Dictatorships don't have.

Though perhaps just paying a set up fee of supplies and what not (depending on how big the puppet is) or something.

True but don't ever do this. The disadvantages far outweigh the advantages.
