When you release some part of your country as a satellite, it becomes a satellite

That is, the nation has a home-government, but its foreign policy is decided by its master.

This is and was in the 19th and 20th century a way to stop poor diplomatic act, like war-mongering nations. Also, it could be used as a common market, thus getting resources cheaper. In VIC2 I suppose it is modelled with the SoI (Sphere of Influence). Annexing the country would just cause too much trouble because of nationalism. With SoI you control the most important spheres of the country: Its foreign policy and its resources.

Also satellites can be used as a buffer against your enemies.

Its missing so far but it seems like a pretty basic feature so I'm sure at the very least mods will take care of it.

In VIC2 I suppose it is modelled with the SoI (Sphere of Influence).

I do not think so. Satellite Countries and Countries in your SoI are two different matters. I figured that out when playing the US and the British stealing Liberia from my SoI - yet it stayed a satellite of mine, although being in the British SoI.

Removing Satellite Status??

Hi guys, just a quick question. Im playing as Ireland at the moment (start as UK, release as a satellite and save and re-load the game). Enjoying it for the most part, getting the hang of the economic side of things....

Anyway, how do I remove my satellite status??? Please tell me there's a way of doing this? Ive played to the 1850's and its just boring now, absolutely now control over diplomacy. So, I created a large army and navy and tried to do something to hopefully provoke the UK into starting a war or causing some event to occur that would give me the option of declaring war on the UK and becoming independent.... but nothing (and I cant declare war or anything either because all diplomacy options are greyed out, regardless of how many diplomacy points I have).

Am I missing something, or is it not possible for satellites to become independent?

Thanks

I don't think there's one directly in the game. You might try the mods forum, they might have a decision for it. I know they have one for leaving SoI...

dont dispare

IT IS POSSIBLE
if you are a satellite to get released of course the classical way would be a war between two superpowers but although it was common in at the time for superpowers to make war and then make the enemy release small nations to weaken them in the game it hasnt happened yet and i doubt it will

second way is to become a great power (top 8)
its a bit of a chore but it is possible
after a whole weekend of playing and several campaigns i managed to do that with wallachia and get myself released from the ottomans
i followed the following principles :

- most important techs early on are freedom of trade(produces lots of money) , mechanical production(increased RGO output) , chemistry and medicine (to insure good population growth)
- first factories based on locally produces goods (i suffered terribly with stuff like luxury furniture which had huge price but i didnt produce locally non of the resources needed)
- focus on clergyman so insure high literacy and good research times
- split your units... make one unit armies and attach generals to all of them the more generals the more military score early on
- so industry and military should make you a second power and thats when you start getting trade fair events which help greatly your prestige

There is a lot more fiddling with sliders and things and of course research railway and economy and culture (it helped that im landlocked i didnt research naval saved a lot of time)
But there you go thats the way i did it and a good beginners guide if i do say so myself
Now i have to create romania but oddly enough russia is now allied with the ottoman empire which seems like a historical nonsense

There is another option that I tried, but it's a bit tedious.

I started as a small insignificant country and went to war with the UK in order to release Ireland with the region of Leinster-Connaught.

I then switched to the UK and proposed peace agreeing to the terms.

From then I played as a second small country and did the same thing, only this time I released Munster to to Ireland.

Lastly I played as Ireland started a war to claim a core (Ulster) and switched to the UK in order to fully release Ireland.

Isnt it so far that only way you can lose satellites is that if they do something funky (war of independece, damanded their release by some other nation that you lose war, or they go berzerk with rebels)

Stop performing necromancy here. It is against site rules.
