Definitely agree that 'claiming the battlefield' should result in reduced heavy equipment losses (slightly modified to a higher value as equipment/tanks become heavier and more complex later in the war).

Kursk in particular (I believe) was a tremendous loss for the Germans because so much of their tank arm couldn't be recovered from the battlefield.

In the western desert campaigns the holding of the battlefield was esential for most units. During the early campaigns both Italy and UK used eachothers equipment. Especially when the front was long away from the reinforcement harbours. And when the Germans (DAK) arrived even more so as many reinforcement was sunk. So yes, in isolated areas recovering and capturing equipment was a must.

They didnt loose as many as you might think, but they lost a lot of tanks the rest of 43 and 44 due to not being able to recover damaged/broken down tanks
