Yes, you do make sense Sonny, I was just hoping to crush Byzantium only to denounce Islam, embrace Shamanism and ravage the Middle East for a few centuries as the Selcuk Turks ;)

I'll take almost as great a pleasure playing any East European dynasty of course---and get involved in any community project once the game is released. No biggie, CK is a win-win situation for all of us :)

Of course we're all thrilled that Paradox is making this game at all...though I couldn't care less for Salahaddin, it's a bummer that I won't get to play as Selcuk Turks. Think of it this way, I'm sure you'd be feel a little let down had Paradox decided Scandinavia (excluding Denmark) was out of CK's scope ;)

Of all the Muslim dynasties of the time, I agree that the Seljuks would be the best to play, simply beacuse they had developed a governmental system that was fairly parallel to the feudalism of Western Europe of the time. The Sultan was at the top, and more or less enfiefed members of his own family with large areas (Kerman, Rum, Syria, etc.) which would be the equivalent to Western duchies, with other native and Turkish dynasties (such as Khwarizm, Sistan, Yazd, Azerbaijan, even the Abbasid Caliphs) ruling the equivalent of duchies and counties. So I could see how the feudal system of CK could translate over to the Seljuks, though the fit isn't as good for the other dynasties of Islam at the time (such as the Fatimids)...

O.K. I read through the posts again and I guess I over reacted. Most of what was said was more of a wish than a complaint. So let me make an apology to those who took offence at my rant. I got a little carried away because for the past year and a half I have been reading posts complaining about not being able to play until 1914 etc. and just got tired of it.

Saladin The politics of the Holy War by Malcom Cameron Lyons & D.E.P. Jackson

It is not a real easy read (IMHO) but it has a lot of information.
