I've been reading on civilizations (thanks to the opened appetite by CK2), got to arab-muslim civilization.

How about playing Saladin? Did anyone play this scenario? Does it have any specific flavours (events and such) or is just like playing any other muslim ruler?

I'm decided to play and don't care about spoilers.

Aside from a few interesting event chains this game really doesn't have spoilers. If you want to play as Saladin you need the Sword of Islam DLC and start in or around the 1187 Bookmark.

You can play Saladin at any time between January 1 1171 and March 4 1193

I was more curious if I will be confronted by the crusade that he was. That's the most important aspect of playing him.

You're not gonna get an exact re-simulation. You'll be fighting the same fight, but it's a sandbox so anything might happen.
