Very much enjoyed that! but as a guide it lacks a bit of detail and isn't that called space marines? the heavy TD thing? But hey I think maybe I'll build some modern TDs and shove them in some divsions... that may help kill my unfriendly japan!
They are "space marines" - well not marines since you can't just build marines any more, but yes, they're the same idea. Banned in many MP games since players can't be bothered to build anti-tanks, even though anti-tanks makes them totally useless (well no better than 14/4 and more expensive). Against AI, it only works against Germany and to a lesser extent Russia. And I suppose Japan, but then no economy in Asia is strong enough to build them.

Though to be fair AT is waaaay too expensive in the game - you could build the same division with 2 AT and AT support rather than tank destroyers and end up paying the same price, have less piercing and zero armour.

Alternative is to build more planes and CAS and forts to level 4-5 - same effect really, just a little more expensive. There are other guides that show this - but I like this strat better.

Yes - it could have more details on the guide, I think the key is that as France, you need to go to:
- Get rid of disjointed govt asap
- Release your puppets for manpower (colonial divisions - not shown in video, but used as third large army)
- Go to war economy asap - and that's done by intervening in Spain
- Send an attache to China for desperately needed army XP and war support, particularly if intervening in Spain isn't your thing

If you do that, your economy can actually close to keep up with Germany's and you have a fighting chance. It actually gets stronger after 1940 as everyone starts importing from you and your civ count skyrockets.

PS: Japan has insane super-veterans after its wars with China. The only way to defeat them is ... not to fight them. Get air superiority and CAS to slow them down, break through the line in one place (ideally plains) through massive superiority, then encircle them / go for the ports and starve them of supply (the planes will stop them intercepting you as you'll be much faster, even with infantry).

Ahhh Well I massively out gunned in the air department, I actually cant even figure out how they have so many planes in the air without killing their efficeny due to over loaded bases and supply...

I mean I don't know how to deal with 5k fighters in one province, I have 2.5k jetfighters with radar and not form over loaded bases and they wiped me. I'm way way behind now.
In my non historical game the world economy has gone crazy, I cant even trade with my puppet because my trade score is too low (the puppet is russia who hate me as I took cores, I really messed up the peace there I thought this would be better than annexing as much of the ussr as I could, probably a big mistake at the moment I don't understand why they hate me as I'm basically building the whole of their infra to supply the war.

I really do not understand how those peace conferences work! it makes no sense!

I have a few nukes but I need air superiority to drop them! Also I've mostly used 7/2 template, my armour divisions are 2med tanks (44) 2 modern tanks, 3 mech and 2 med sp art...

I just cant get enough tungsten to build everything should I drop back from jet fighters? (then it's only rubber I don't have! grr)

I have a handful of 40 width, now 13/4 +1 Modern TD (Space Marines are meant to be elite) they've performed very well. but I have like 7... with no mech or armour (well two very small Light Tank divisons only) I think I'll expand this up fron tup (it's pushed the border back from India to Siam.. If I can collaspe Siam some of my resource pain starts to fade.

Also the US is at war with all the allies (apart from me) I'm very afraidI may lose trade influence with them, before I've finished off Japan, and then I need to figure out whether to fight them or just ask them to hand Canada back nicely...

All in all it's a mad run through for my first game!

I missed how to intervene in Spain, I actually had the lucky thing fire that put me on war economy but didn't manage to keep it, I've had to run with the some debuffs for a really long time!

It's been a blast but I'm starting to think I should quit and try it properly this time, however, the world is so crazy and this run through so nuts...

Should I attempt to hand Russia her cores back so I can get a positive relationship with her?

I really had no idea about releaseing all those puppets. How does that free up manpower?

I really had no idea about releaseing all those puppets. How does that free up manpower?

This is one of the main reasons to puppet. When you build a puppet division, the vast majority of the manpower will come from the puppet, instead of your own manpower pool, but use your equipment.

From the Wiki:

  • The master can effectively boost their own manpower by raising units including a mix of master and puppet manpower (70% for a Colony, 90% for a Puppet, and 100% for an Integrated Puppet). Such colonial divisions are controlled by the puppet master. The templates for such colonial divisions are those taken or adapted from the puppet's own template list (open by clicking the Crown icon at the top of the Division Designer in the Recruit/Deploy menu). If a puppet is newly released, it will receive templates of the puppet master.
You can confirm the puppet is supplying most of the manpower by hovering your mouse over the progress bars in the Recruit and Deploy window.

To make this happen, find the puppet division template you like the most. You find that list, like the Wiki says, by clicking the Crown icon at the top of the list of Division templates. A drop down list will appear and you select the puppet you are interested in. Your list of division templates will then be replaced with the puppet's list. Find the division you like, click the Copy button and now that division template will show up in your nation's list of division templates. Now you can open that specific division, change it as you like, and train it like it is one of yours. It will still use your equipment and your Army experience to modify, but it will use, mostly, puppet manpower.

That's so cool! I had a successful evening.

It seem I imported too much from Russia as my puppet, it looks like it's years away from being able to get the autonomy down (I need to back out 400 autonomy to move to integrated puppet, I'd like to annex them) They are contributing too much to the war at the moment. Which is annoying.

My own encirclements have seriously damaged Japan. I hold Bejing and Tainjin, Dalian etc and am now staring down the huge mess that is China..

Japan keeps launching naval invasions all over, I think I need to garrison some arears but I'm not sure how to do that more videos for me. Leaving it to the Russians and allies works ok but they get too much war score!

We have pushed them back in south east china, Malaysia and indochina, siam, Singapore area ll free (Siam has capitulated but I can't trade with them still and India (the occupying forces) doesn't seem to have access to sell their tungsten! )

I'm still working on my navy, I've no idea if I have enough according to the diplomacy screen there is no way but it's all modern stuff so maybe they can win out?

I had hoped as I capitulated Japan's allies I could get their resources, then I can actually build as much as I need... everything is slow I have a near 150 deficet on tungsten...

Well, so Japan has fallen and I think I've messed up the peace deal...

I've puppeted Japan with all her territory, and the Chinese and siam.

But now I need to figure out how to lower their autonomy so I can annex them? I saw a video which made it look like a lend lease and an attache was all I needed but I need to work off 400 autonomy and more I guess as this will reduce them to an integrated puppet.

I'll build them some stuff that helps.

I now have enough resources to use all my MILs but expect I now have too few Mils having handed so much territory over to puppets?

USA has just droped about 120 division in the UK and I'm unsure how to respond, I'm less dependent on them for resources and could go to war BUT Britain and ITaly are in the Allies and Facsits, USA is still a democracy, Like me...

Not sure how to proceed,It's also 53 so for my first game I'm thinking it may be time to call it a day!

My New Navy did really well and owned the Japans but I expect they atre just a blip to the USA's navy!

I've just read the whole thread. Yes, playing unHistorical can be messy but i had a great time reading about the struggles of France in this timeline!
Nice "AAR".
