- true to that, but i just talked about mine own perception of the group and their typical fans. Sabaton just doesn't suit my taste in music and comments section in their YouTube videos... terrify me.What I find applies to most metal bands of their thematic area is that their lyrics are purposefully over the top to the point of being cringeworthy (remember Manowar?). I wouldn't call them satire per se, but when comparing most of these bands "in-character" and "out-of-character", one often finds that their intent is either more focused on just storytelling or something kind of satirical. While I'm sure they exist, I personally am not familiar with any martial-metal-with-historical-references-band that actively tries to push a nationalistic/violence-glorifying message.
Which of course is not to say they can't be understood as such, but then again, that's down to the listener who for all intents and purposes should be assumed to be an educated, mature human being possessing a degree of media awareness.

I actually started learning Swedish (mostly) because of it..well that, my Scandinavian obsession, and a few other bands as well.I'm guessing by the names that they're the English versions? Pity, even as a Brit, I think the Carolus Rex album sounds better in Swedish.
Exactly, the true military genius in the carolean era is Carl XI, he created an army which would the model for armies for over a century and he never lost a battle (mainly because he only fought one).Karl XII had the advantage of what was perhpas the finest army in Europe, though he certainly was a fine general. A terrible king, mind you, but a fine general.
They don't glorify war, listen to lifetime of war, cliffs of gallipoli and so on.- err... yes? I dont really like Sabaton, i find their war glorifying songs to be distasteful and mainly targeted at certain crowd. I just pointed out of 5 songs selected by Pdx, 4 are from Carolus Rex album, and out of those 4, 3 are about Swedish Space Marines and their Primarch - Tyranosaurus Karl but for some rAISIn unexplained non of those 3 are Poltava. He He He.
And yet it is far better in swedish.Ok it's official. I LOVE EU IV. Sabaton is an amazing band which focuses on history and warfare yet doesn't glorify it, it tries to tell it as it was/is. Lifetime of War in particular is a VERY moving song about the 30-Years-War. I hope they continue to add more DLC like this in the future (HOPEFULLY VERY SOON!).There'll always be nay-sayers who feel it breaks the immersion. To those folks I say this: Simply don't buy the DLC. ^_^
Which makes me dread stellaris where the standard game track seems to be electronic...
Then a classical score, nice and neutral. With electronic music as DLCs, for the people who like that stuff. The only rock track I can think of that would be appropriate for Stellaris would be 2112.

I think you are underestimating him. The Swedes were almost always outnumbered by 3:1 during Karl XIIs reign. While superior discipline and military training help to even the odds it would all have been for nought without very able commander. Had Karl XII not been injured before the battle of Poltava then the outcome could very well have been different (Although Russian winter probably would have sawed them anyway). He was a poor ruler but a good commander, that maybe overestimated his abilities slightly. In hindsight he should ofc have accepted Russias fairly generous peace deal after the Russian defeat at Narva.I think you are over valuing Carl XII, now Carl XI he'd have loads of pips.
In the words of Sun Tzu to fight and conquer in every battle is not supreme excellence, supreme excellence is to win without fighting. Carl XII was a good fighter but his father had supreme excellence. Yet everyone blather about Carl XII when Carl XI was the real hero of the carolingian era.I think you are underestimating him. Also: run to the hills for colonizers.Add in the Trooper by Iron Maiden then.

I disagree, there are tons of rock and metal bands that belong in a sci-fi game. From the top of my head, I can name Meshuggah, Cynic, Mechina and Gojira but anything in the categories of space rock, technical death, industrial metal, post-rock, post-metal, darkwave, coldwave etc.The only rock track I can think of that would be appropriate for Stellaris would be 2112.
