In the spirit of Arumba's adjustments, i have a few simple interface improvements I would like to suggest. Now i'm not one of those fancy big city video bloggers, so my submission will be in textual form, but hopefully since i will limit my suggestions to basic tool-tip and interface improvements, they have a good chance of being considered.

The first couple suggestions are about westernization-related UI. I would like to explain why this is important, briefly. If you have a protectorate, you can instantly lose all control over your protectorate if it westernizes, so whether or not it can westernize and especially whether it is currently westernizing is very important information to the overlord.

--------------------------------------------------

Suggestion 1: Show westernization progress of third party nations in the UI.

Right now there is basically no indication that a third party nation is westernizing unless you happen to know to check the revolt risk of their provinces for the "Western Influences" penalty. And even if you know to check for this, it only tells you that they are westernizing but doesn't give you any indication as to how much progress they have made. Showing this directly in the UI will provide much needed transparency to the westernization process.

Suggestion 2: Show whether a country is eligible for westernization and which neighboring western country is allowing them to do so in their technology group tool tip.

This would make it a lot more transparent whether or not your protectorates are likely to start westernizing soon and maybe you could do something to prevent them from doing so if this is not desirable. As of right now, you just have to know the mechanics and figure out yourself if any of your protectorates are currently meeting the requirements to westernize.

Bonus suggestion 2.2: Also show which requirements the country is missing in their technology tooltip

For example, say a particular country already has a neighboring western core but is currently not 7 technologies behind. This information could be very useful in figuring out when that country is likely to start being able to westernize.

Suggestion 3: Separate permanent country modifiers from country modifiers with an expiration date. Sort permanent country modifiers alphabetically. Sort expiring country modifiers by expiration date or alphabetically (either would be ok)

The country modifiers list can get totally out of hand if you have more than say 10 country modifiers. It doesn't appear that they currently display in any particular order, so it is very hard to find a particular modifier you are looking for. Separating and sorting the list would make this list much more useful.

Suggestion 4: Add filters to the subjects screen

The subjects screen is a great screen showing a lot of useful information. However, if you have a lot of vassals, colonial nations, protectorates, and trade companies, it can be difficult to get much useful information out of the screen because they are all mixed together. Adding some basic filters where you can select to view only one category at a time or all at once (it can default to the current all at once view) would be quite useful and hopefully easy to implement

Suggestion 5: Show total province count on the same tooltip with total province warscore cost

When attacking a colonizer nation, sometimes you can not be sure whether you actually know where all their territory is. If you are trying to fully occupy them, it would be extremely useful to be able to count the number of provinces you know of and compare it to the actual total number of provinces they have. It is currently difficult, but possible, to see this in the graphs page in the ledger, but it is difficult to figure out the exact number because you have to figure out exactly where they are between two scale numbers. Plus you have to play with the list of selected countries to get it to only display the one you are trying to get information about.

Big problem in MP this would be not to mention, its like putting a lightbulb over the AI and saying, look at me, I'm weak and vulnerable, please attack and kill me in SP.

Its fairly simple to know when your protectorates will westernize as it takes an 8+tech level difference at least, and since they are your protectorate, there is not much you can do to slow them down outside of break protectorateship, and dow. (-1 stab+ cost) Even then there is no guarantee that they will finish westernizing .

Bonus suggestion 2.2: Also show which requirements the country is missing in their technology tooltip

For example, say a particular country already has a neighboring western core but is currently not 7 technologies behind. This information could be very useful in figuring out when that country is likely to start being able to westernize.

Its called pause the game, and check the map. Ideally you'll have paid attention to the movement and change of land overtime. If such, you'll know what did or didn't happen.

Useful, Perhaps. However country modifiers do appear in an order: the order taken. So if you took a permant modifier in 1444, a temp in 1446 (10 yr temp), and a perm in 1446, it will look like Perm1, temp1, perm2. Then after 1445 it will be perm1, perm2.

Not simple, secondly the Subjects screen only displays opinion, income given to overlord, army size, and liberty desire. If you need more information, use the "f" key and search for the country name in question.

Suggestion 5: Show total province count on the same tooltip with total province warscore cost

When dealing with a colonial nation, sometimes you can not be sure whether you actually know where all their territory is.

Most colonial nations are landlocked and rarely have territory in Islands. Also are typically limited to one Colonial Region. The only difficult to occupy colonial region is the Caribbean, due to Island province numbers. When at war with a nation that has TI on its land, any one of your generals/armies can move through the TI, as if it were an explorer. This way you can move through land.

Also its generally not the colony who has the annoying Micro islands, but the overlord.

But hopefully since i will limit my suggestions to basic tool-tip and interface improvements, they have a good chance of being considered.

Clearly you have yet to be nohaned. When asked whether a Form Croatia decision was to be added in 1.8, he said: "Serbia STRONK!" This tells you of the type of man we are dealing with. :p

Yes, protectorate westernizing should be a risk, and you should have to stand a chance of loosing them, or having significant revolts in them. (Think British India, and the troubles they had.

Second, and more importantly, there is a message options that you can turn on to tell you when a nation westernize and you can set it so that it can be a pop up, or a notification in the message center, or whether it will/wont pause the game.

Sorry, my wording was unclear. I meant colonizer nations. AKA Castile, Portugal, England, etc. I edited it for clarity.

Well, similar arguments can be applied to almost all existing mapmodes: why do you need the tradegood mapmode when you can check them manually? Not to mention that having multiple gold provinces is just a lightbulb in MP!

So I guess your arguments don't hold at all.

They all seem good additions. You can already find out all of the information so these addition would not be "cheating". It just takes too much time which is annoying.

I would like to point to point out that this isn't really a reason not to make the change. You can already find out if a country is westernizing in both SP and MP, it's just in an incredibly un-intuitive manner by checking their unrest. If there's a problem with westernization making a country vulnerable, it is a problem with the mechanic and the solution isn't to perpetuate a bad UI as a band-aid.

Also i just realized posting this on a Friday night probably wasn't the smartest idea. I hope the developers had a nice weekend and maybe get a chance to read these suggestions on Monday :)

I've noticed:

1. People Cherry picked my arguements, and ignored the rest, as I do note later on that when a nation starts westernizing, a message will be sent, and depending on your message settings it will either show up as a pop up, pausing the game or in the notification center.

2.

Well, similar arguments can be applied to almost all existing mapmodes: why do you need the tradegood mapmode when you can check them manually? Not to mention that having multiple gold provinces is just a lightbulb in MP!

So I guess your arguments don't hold at all.

Until you notice, that a westernization map mode as described, is essentially the tech map mode, where you (God Forbid) actually have to do a little bit of work and count up their technology levels, then take a quick look at nearby maps to see whether they westernize.
Also, my arguements do hold they are simple and logical, and just require a little bit of understanding of the game mechanics, and where everything is, and how simple it is to simply look around in the game.

3. Am I the only one in this thread who has actually responded to the topic be it with criticisms and advice, and not insults and attacks.
